A question has arisen about the countries of origin of these early Harbour Lights.

The history states there were 266 made of the original 102 Cape Hatteras - all made in Southern California.

When excessive breakage was found in shipments, the piece was resculpted into the more substantial 102R Cape Hatteras (on the left below.)



If you own a CH102R, please indicate the edition number and the country of origin and how you know the country of origin ("Made in sticker..")Possible countries of origin should be Canada or Malaysia.

Please indicate also the color of the 'felt' on the bottom of the piece. Possible choices should be gray or green. If green, and the piece was made in Canada, it's possible that the bottom is 'flocked' and there is a 1/4" to 1/2" border around the bottom that is not flocked (right in photo below.)



If the color of the felt is gray, is it the light gray or dark gray?



Also indicate whether the stripe that begins over the entry door is black or white.

Why the interest, John?

Someone contacted me to correct the statement at www.HarbourLights.com/ to the effect that all the mainder of 102R were made in Canada. I was trying to get an idea of where the break in production is between Canada and Malaysia.

It does not appear to be a definitive number. The lowest Malaysian so far is 2039, but there are Canadians with higher numbers 2163, 2867, 3147.

I never heard of that before, Daniel. Exactly what was done to your HL102R? Can you post a picture?

As you probally know, On the early HL's a painting procedure was used called "Antiquing". The idea of this was to give the lighthouse an old weathered appearance. The early Admiralty Heads had black specks scattered over it and some of The Hatteras was given a dirty appearance.

One of ways of Antiquing the Hatteras was diping them into a Shellac. This would put a yellowing (dirty) cast on them. Mine has a yellowish cast on all the flat parts of the base.
I will try to take a picture as soon as I can figure out how to make my Flash card reader work.

Thanks for the info, Dan. I had never heard about that before. That process was definitely not done to mine. My HL102R looks like it's brand new.
