A St Simons on ebay was listed with having the same number as the St Simons that I own. I contacted the Owner and the buyer telling them this and I haven’t received any response. The St Simons #333 Limited Edition that I have is a Mylasian and the one on ebay is made in Canada. Do you think it is possible that there are two St Simons L.E. with the same number?

Daniel,

This was an earlier piece. Also there was a transition from Canada to Malaysia. I believe that it was MORE than possible to have a duplication.

Have you checked lately to be sure yours is still there, Daniel? The seller is just down the coast from you. Talk about a bargain price on this one! It would have been interesting to be able to add to your collection, just to have two with the same number.

Daniel,

Curiosity got the best of me. The same seller submitted 18 posts on Ebay lately. But here is a partial breakdown:

1 - with #133
3 - with #331
1 - with #336
1 - with #338
2 - with #339
1 - with #313

Just a wild (no relation to WILD) guess, but I'd be willing to bet my paycheck that it is just a typo. The bet is no problem, since I don't get a paycheck.

Apparently this guy claims to be selling off a rather large collection of HL's numbering close to 700. He has no boxes and no paperwork to send with them. I was the high bidder on two of his auctions and one of the pieces is Flag#333. I can confirm that because I have it right in front of me. The other piece never arrived even though both payments were sent in the same envelope. I've emailed him a couple of times asking him to check with his shipper to find out where my other piece is. So far there has been no response. The first of the two pieces was shipped October 4, and even though this is the 20th, I haven't heard a word. Needless to say, I am concerned.

Bob,

I'm not sure I'd buy from this person but keep in mind that those negative and neutral remarks are fare outnumbered by feedback that is good to glowing.

It's 99% Good to 1% Bad.

I can speak from experience that most of the negative and neutral feedback given to me was unwarranted (my percentage is 98.8% with no neutral or negative in the last year on 245 sales).

That all said- if Bob (the other Bob)has had a negative experience it's enough for me to steer clear of the person.

This forum is to help collectors in Collecting.
You did some actual and informative research.
The information you stated will help collectors make a better choice in decision-making concerning this seller. I know you opened my eyes.
1% are good odds unless you are the one percent.

I also agree with Dennis when you sell a lot on ebay you are going to get some unwarranted negative feedback. I also usually buy off of sellers with 98% good feedback without questioning it, figuring that they probably were just normal misunderstanding. But the list Bob provides us shows seller mismanagement and possible fraud.

The reason I didn’t bid very high on any of this seller Lighthouses was that many of the lighthouses were in poor condition and he didn’t return my email. I have learned from experience that if a seller can’t return your email for a general question, why would he return one when you have a real problem with him.

Fear not, Bob, you make a very valid statement! Admittedly, I never bothered to read any of his feedback. When I saw 565 individual sellers giving him a 99% positive feedback rating, well that was okay with me at the prices most of his auctions are going for. A later check revealed he has 707 positives and 6 negatives. That is an acceptable rating in my book under the old adage, "You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time."

I've sent 4 or 5 emails to him and finally received a response overnight. It was three words, "they already left". I sent a reply requesting what he meant by those three words.

Just to bring you up to speed on what happend, I won two of his auctions, I put two separate money orders in one envelope each with a copy of the eBay Auction sheet, and did receive one item over a week ago. I figured the second item couldn't be far behind but it hasn't arrived yet. So now I have to wait and see if this seller will come through with the piece, or if it got lost will he refund my money. I will sincerely try to work it out before I consider hitting him with negative feedback because he will probably give the same to me and spoil my 100% positive feedback rating.

Right now he has $59.18 of my money (why did he have to screw up on the expensive piece!), and I want what I paid for or my money back. I will keep you informed of what finally happens. It the meantime, I would have second thoughts about bidding on any of his offerings unless you feel lucky.

Makes you wonder Bob, if he actually had all of the pieces or is waiting to get them from someone else before sending them to you. Maybe he's just "brokering" the deal.

No one seems to have mentioned the possibility that these numbers were changed?

Of course anything is POSSIBLE. There was someone on the Forums in the old days who had two pieces with the same number and presented them to Bill to sign who was quite surprised.

I emailed the seller that his St Simon’s L.E. had the same number as mine.
He never emailed me back. Since he did not email me back, I did not bid on it anymore. I was assuming that something was not right or he would have emailed me back.
I am sure that mine is legitimate. I purchased mine in 97 from a seller that bought it retail.
The seller had a large collection and was also selling to Mike Richardson (secondary dealer) at the time. Yes; I just check it and it is still there.
In addition, I have the box with the same number written on it. The Seller on ebay had no box to prove its matching number. The seller on ebay also had the production amount as 8000 instead as the 5500. He also listed some of his other lights with an 8000 instead of there actual number. I tried zooming in on the picture and it does not look like 333 but it is hard to tell. Any of you secret Wacko agents out there have use of on enhancer that would clarify the picture?

Either 333 or 11. 33/3=11.

I knew John would have some kind of high tech photo enhancer that would pop that number right out to you, as if it was pasted on.

Much to my surprise, my package arrived from "easydropoff" yesterday. The seller described the piece as in excellent condition. The actual condition is extremely poor. Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed with this piece.

What do you think? Am I stuck with a worthless piece or should I try to see if I can get my money back?

Bob,

Definitely try to entice him to return your money. It's worth a shot. Although I wouldn't hold out much hope. Plus you'd have to probably pay for the return shipping.

But I would blast him with an appropriate feedback. Sorry that you had so much trouble.

I had that happen to me. I contacted the seller and he was very considerate. All it ended up costing me was the return postage. Got my money back and was very pleased. I hope you're as lucky. I would think that the seller would like to get a positve rating from you.

I'd say you have to try and contact the seller. You can even send a letter to the same address you sent the money if you don't get an electronic response.

I would not give him negative feedback if he makes good on the mistake he made- I'd give him at worst neutral feedback. I'd mention the problem and the resolution.

If no response comes in an approipriate amount of time then Negative Feedback is fully warranted. You have to make a good faith effort to reconcile the differences before leaving Negative- or even neutral- feedback.

The majority of the negative feedbacks I have gotten could have been cleared up if the person emailed me before leaving the feedback.

Just out of curiosity, is "easydropoff" the UPS auction service or someone or something else?. UPS has been advertising a drop off service to sell stuff on ebay, Just wondering if it was them.

I have followed this thread with interest and it is interesting that no one mentioned that either this person has done some extensive gathering of pieces that have two number three in the edition number, or is somehow creating numbers in desireable range to entice buyers. Since there is some concern about duplicate numbers it might be interesting to know from other collectors if they have pieces in thier collection that are three digit numbers with two threes in them. I have a #127 Whaleback that is numbered #383, but that is the only one that is close to this theme and seems to be to high a number from those he is posting.

Bringing you all up to speed, I emailed the seller to express my dissatisfaction with the condition of the piece and the fact it was damaged goods. I also brought to his attention the fact that the $12.50 he charged me for shipping and handling did include insurance. Therefore, I respectfully requested a refund or for the seller to put in an insurance claim on this piece. He listed that he shipped through UPS in his auction ad, but DHL delivered the piece.

I'll let you know what he has to say if and when he contacts me.

The winner of the Bid for the St Simons contacted me. The number on it was not #333 but a much lower number. The seller must have just been copying descriptions from previous lighthouses he had for sale and didn't edit them properly.

I received a reply from "easydropoff" regarding my request for a refund due to the fact the piece was damaged. He advised me he would send a check as soon as the piece arrived. I guess I'll have to wait and see. The piece was sent off to him address yesterday.

Thanks guys, once again! I was highly considering placing some bids on this seller's offerings. Now, I have reason to reconsider.
