In the past, I’ve tried to “size-up” different HL pieces with regards to “are you getting a lot for your Dollar.” Excluding subjective, emotional, aesthetic, investment, and edition size appeal, I have “tried” to determine good VALUE with regards to MSRP by looking at size (height, width, depth), weight (mass & bulk), degree of highly detailed features (bricks, shingles, windows, paneling, paint-job, etc.), decorative features (# of buildings, trees, rocks, boats, etc.). For example, the KEY WEST GLOW has the following features: a 6” detailed LH, a nearly 6” by 6” base, a detailed Keepers Quarters building, 3-4 additional buildings/structures, a 3.5” palm tree and a second tree which is nearly 3” tall, long walkways, a garden hose, 5 sets of stairs, boxes, bushes, picket fence, shingles, bricks, paneling, etc, etc.. PRETTY DARN GOOD for $65! Unfortunately, I have been unable thus far to come up with a formula or parametric technique with which to determine a good: -you’re getting a good “BANG FOR YOUR BUCK” Index. As an alternative, I would like to know which 5 HL sculptures forum members would rate highly on a “BANG FOR YOUR BUCK” scale with regards to the criteria above and the HL MSRP.

I'm not sure I can describe the criteria that I used to reach my conclusion, but here goes in no particular order - HL 240 Oak Island, HL 622 Kilauea, HL 223 Port Judith, HL 423 Tybee Island and HL 421 Thomas Point. I think they fall into the criteria listed above, at least in my opinion. Dennis

I got to say my best Bang vs. Buck would have to be my New Point Loma @ $70.00 (directly from the 1st reunion) if you look at all the other skeleton tower HL pieces. Sanibel $120.00, Hillsboro $125.00 and American Shoal $99.00 So just from a cost vs. what you got stand point, I think New Point Loma is a big winner and is still my favorite among the 4.

This is a tough question because it doesn't ask for my favorites.
I'd say for the price, I consider these most value for the money.
Cape Canaveral for the palm trees, rocket and smoke clouds. Tybee Island Signature Series Thomas Point Signature Series Hudson Athens for the railing Hillsboro for the metal work and size

Great question! The first HL that comes to mind is La Coruna. Inexpensive, large and low production numbers. 2. Hudson Athens is simply a heavy and finely detailed piece. 3. White Shoal is beautiful! 4. East Quoddy has great detail and a snowman too. 5. New Point Loma is everything a great lighthouse should be 6. (I know you said only 5) I have to add Old Field Point for its detail and size.
These pieces may not necessarily be my favorites but, they have the great "value" that you mentioned. Joe

If you want more "bang for your buck", buy firecrackers. If you want more value for your dollar, always buy HLs. (IMHO) Bob

For the money, I have always thought that the following L.E. Harbour Lights were a bargain for what you got :
30-mile point $62.00 Cape Lookout $64.00 St. Joseph North Pier $60.00 Spectacle Reef $60.00 Mukilteo $55.00

How about Navesink? By far the heaviest and largest! As for the price, I have seen stores in the past few months selling this huge piece for half price! At that price it makes quite a deal! (Bought mine went it first came out - should have waited ) Even at full price you still get a lot of bang for the buck! IMO

Hey Randy, ...And Navesink makes a great door stop! Testing shows it will hold the average interior door open indefinitely. Try that with a CSC! Bob

Don't forget the collectors society "gift" pieces! The first four Spyglass pieces, Amelia Island, Cockspur and Baltimore Harbor are all very nice pieces...and they were all FREE!!!
