Hi Diane!
I just went into that site and was amazed at how reasonable it would be to go there in the off-season. If there were four people who wanted to go it would be very reasonable to go for a week and split costs. Do you think you could stay in one place and visit all the N.C. lighthouses from there?

Hi Kay,
It is a very reasonable stay during the OFF season both in the spring and the fall/winter months.

You can get to Currituck, Bodie Island, Hatteras, and Ocracoke by staying in one place. You could also see the new Roanoke Marshes Light replica, the Roanoke River replica and Chicamacomico LSS...all by commuting from one beach cottage or hotel.

But because of the traveling distances, and the barrier islands, you'd need to travel farther south for a second stay to get to Cape Lookout, Baldhead and Oak Island.

Ocracoke, Baldhead and Cape Lookout must be reached by ferry...but a very enjoyable ride for either in decent weather.

If I can be permitted to mention this here, the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society is currently selling raffle tickets , and one of the four prizes is a weeks stay in a beachfront cottage at Hatteras Island Nov. '04 - May '05. I have the tickets, if you'd like to try that route.

I'd like to try to win a week's stay in a beachfront cottage at Hatteras Island Nov. '04 - May '05. How much are the raffle tickets and how do we apply? Thank you.

Hi Bob!

I have the information posted about the prizes here in the Lighthouse Preservation Forum. You can find it here: OBLHS Raffle Tickets and you can get the tickets from me, Shirin or Joyce (Bonnebert).

I will have them by the first of next week and will be sending a supply to both the other ladies.
Email me, and I'll give you a mailing address.

They are $2.00 each and the drawing will take place Oct. 23,'04.
