I just got back from my trip to Long Island. I had a chance to visit a good number of Lighthouses over the weekend. I was able to see Tarrytown, Jeffrey's Hook, Stepping Stones, Sands Point, Execution Rocks, Eatons Neck, Old Field Point, Castle Hill, Lime Rock, Rose Island, Goat Island, Beavertail, Point Judith, Stonington, Mystic, Lynde Point, Old Saybrook, Orient Point, Plum Island, Long Beach Bar, and Horton Point. It was alot of driving and a good time to use the zoom lens on the camera. The weather wasn't very cooperative for the most part, but it was a great trip.

Glad you had a good time John. You missed great weather by a week. July 31 - August 7 was 85 and blue skies every day. I was camping a Montauk that week, and didn't want to leave.
I'm guessing you took the cruise from Groton?

I had heard that the weather was real nice the week before. Actually, I drove to all of the lighthouses. The boat probably would have been better, but I wanted to see as much as I could. I was very fortunate seeing Execution Rocks because the house at Sands Point was being renovated and the construction crew let my brother and I take pictures.

Mike,
I did have a great time. I was able to climb Eaton's Neck and Horton Point. I got some pictures back, but I am awaiting the bulk of what I had taken with a different camera.
I usually make it up to LI a couple of times a year. I would love to get back there, but I have a great job in Tampa .
John

P.S. I was going to go see if I could climb Old Field Point, but it was dinner time and I didn't want to disturb anyone.

From the list of lights you visited it soounds as if you may have strayed from Long Island a little bit! 21 lights in one week-end - what a trip! You need to share with us your routing so perhaps others can retrace your route to enjoy the same lights.

Look forward to hearing more.

Dave

Dave,
I did stray a little from Long Island, but that was where my home base was located . This is how I traced my route. Thursday: Up to Tarrytown, Jeffrey's Hook, Sands Pt./Execution Rocks, Eatons Neck, Old Field Point. Friday: Up to Newport RI for Castle Hill, Lime Rock, Rose Island, Goat Island. Then I started back tracking toward Beavertail, and Point Judith before entering Connecticut to view Stonington, Mystic, Lynde Point, and Old Saybrook. Saturday: Out to Orient Point, Plum Island and back toward Long Beach Bar, and Horton Point.
It was alot of driving, but well worht it to see how much I could cram into 1 day. the Friday trip was good because some of the lights were on due to the fog. I had wanted to get out to Block Island, but I didn't have enough time. guess that will have to be on the next trip .

John,

Presume you took a ferry from LI across to Newport on Friday? How 'bout Saturday- ferry across or drive all the way around?

Dave,
I drove the whole time. I beat the traffic out of NY on Friday morning and it only took a little over 3 hours to get to Newport.

Hard to believe you missed the Long Island Crown Jewels Fire Island and Montauk; and the diamond in the rough Cedar Island.
I guess you've already been to FI and Montauk. I just reclimbed them in the past month, and their still SPECTACULAR!!
