I made it out to the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse last Saturday Oct 30th. As you will see, I don't have a fancy camera and the weather was a bit on the foggy side when we first arrived, but anyway here are the pictures.

Thanks for the pictures, Mike! Sure needs a lot of work. Too bad they don't have more people willing to help out.

Great photos Mike! Gives a real sense of why it is on the endangered lighthouse list. I especially liked the picture with Esopus reflected in the water.

Now all I have to do is see it in person, keep me posted on any opportunities.

Thanks,
Donna

Thanks for the pics Mike. Sure hope the Save Espous folks are successful in putting together a group of workers and funding to work on the light. Look forward to hopefully hearing some positive news about the efforts in the near future.

When we saw the light from the Hudson's west bank last summer the "meadow" between the light and the shore was most interesting. The little park and bench would be an enjoyable place to spend some time.

Nice to see the light up close. It's in very sad shape, but at least there are some good people looking out for her best interests.

I too had the same experience as Dave, of viewing the light and meadows from Lighthouse Park on the west bank. It was a very quiet and calm morning, with the fog rolling across the river. Quite a moving experience, very serene, just wanted to sit there and soak it up for awhile. I hope the light can survive for future generations to also experience this peaceful, out-of-the-way setting.

Thanks for the tour, Mike. What, if anything, is being done to stave off further decay or vandalism?

Right now there is a small group of volunteers who are trying to make a dent in what appears to be a task of endless work. The BIG obstacle is the foundation. Besides the sinking of almost fifteen inches, the main structure is also pulling away from the foundation. Until this problem is solved, there is not a whole lot that can be done to the rest of the structure.

Thank you very much for the photos and update on Esopus Meadows.

It is such a shame that such a beautiful light has gotten to the state it's in.

Are there any plans for obtaing funds to help with the restoration?? Fund Raisers?? Merchandise (t-shirts, etc.)?? I'm sure that there are folks on the forum and elsewhere that would be willing to help out.
