I had recently spoken with a small tour boat company in the St. Michaels, Maryland area concerning a short cruise during our visit to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum late next month. He mentioned a small privately owned light in the area, which I believe he called "Bennett Point"?
I think he said it was along the Eastern Bay and ??? River mouth, but I forgot to jot it down (amateur). Anyone familiar with this light? If so, could you give me some better bearing points for it's location. No luck on numerous web sites. I will call him back for more info, but thought I would check the Wacko Database first.

Checked the Shanklin's book and didn't find it listed, unless it goes by another name.

Rod, You might try the folks at the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS. They have email links on their contact page. Anne Puppa, their preservation person, lives in the MD of the District and may have some ideas. From my readings their prez, Henry Gonzalez, may also be able to help. They don't list a light by the name of Bennett Point on either current or long gone light lists. http://www.cheslights.org/contact.htm Sounds like you're going to do the trip right! Have fun. Dave

Paul e-mailed me a map of where Bennett Point is. The lighthouse probably does not necessarily have it's own "name" since it is private, but I know where it is now. It will be a nice surprise, since I have no idea what it looks like. This is around the 7th "private" light we will have visited. It's kind of neat stumbling on lights that don't show up in books. Thanks for the input everyone. BTW Derith, I did e-mail Bob Shanklin, they are going to e-mail me back any info they have on it also. As an example, below is a light we found in Erie, PA that does not show up in any books, called the "Erie Waterworks Light". It was built for private use around 1910 for the ferry service out to the eastern Presque Isle shore from downtown Erie by the Waterworks ferry service. -RodW[This message has been edited by Rod Watson (edited 04-23-99).]

Hmm. A new series for Harbour Lights? Privately built, owned & operated lighthouses? (PBOOL)
Guess they've already done one of those -- Sea Pines SC.
