We stop at the Old and New Cape Henry hoping to see Chesapeake Light from the top of Old Cape Henry, but could not see it (on a clear day you can, so I am told). Notice the yellow ribbon around the top ofOld Cape Henry, it is for our Armed Forces. Distance view of Cape Charles from the Eastern Shore NWR at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Look to the right side of the clump of trees. Plantation Flats Screw Pile Lighthouse Replica. Made from the original blueprints. You can see the ruins of the original from here, 2 miles away. Lantern room with replica lens. Next door is the country club for the golf course. Lighthouse keeper tools. Boat.

Eric,
Great photos. where is the replica of Plantation Screws Lighthouse (as well as the whereabouts of the ruins)?
We may get to this area in the Fall this year.

Nice photos! Where'd you get the Cape Charles photo from? I've been to Eastern Shore NWR before (right on the way home from the OBX), and I didn't get to see it.
We did miss one trail there...if I could find the brochure (I can find the one for every other area refuge EXCEPT Eastern Shore), I could figure out what it was.
I know we did the little loop that went around the battery, and the butterfly trail. There WAS one that we missed off the battery loop. Is that where you got the photo from?
I'll have to convince my parents to stop over here on the way home next month. This is the lighthouse that I've seen the most times without ever taking a photo.

Thanks, again, for sharing your trip photos, Eric. It sure is nice for those of us who don't get to see lights very frequently. We can do it vicariously through our forums friends.
Greg, does your family own a house on the OBX? Can't think of a better place to vacation.

Greg, there is an evalated platform on one of the trails. There was parking near by (not the visitor center).

Thanks Eric - I'll have to check it out when we go down. I found my brochure, and I think I see where it is.
Grace - we don't own a house, though, over the past 7 years, we've spent enough to rent them that we probably could've instead. We considered it at one point, but realising that a house that we'd like (equivalent to the ones we rent) would be really expensive, between getting a nice lot, and building the perfect house. Then you have to deal with renting it out, because you can't be there all the time because it's so far from NJ. But then when you DO go down, you can't have a nice relaxing stay, because it's like you're at home, worrying about fixing stuff, because that stupid family of 15 that rented it out decided to wreak havoc on your wall treatments (there's a reason that a lot of the rental houses there have textured walls) and you need to fix the AC unit and one of the showers are leaking and...
So for now, we're just frequent renters. Maybe one day, we'll own...but right now, we just can't justify it.

Eric,
Thanks for the info. It's been awhile since we drove through that part of the Delmarva Peninsula.
I'm thinking of a long weekend in the fall- possibly during the Maryland LH challenge.

I liked the yellow ribbon too. But it's gone now. I was through there recently and stopped in.
Miss that ribbon!
