For the first time in almost 20 years, the Warwick Neck Lighthouse grounds in Rhode Island were open to the public. Normally the best view of this lighthouse is from the water. Today however,many lighthouse nuts and the local community had their first up close view of the light. Commander Thomas Jones who lives at the station was on hand to talk about the lighthouse. The local mayor was also visiting the light today. Prints of a watercolor painting of the lighthouse were given out for the event. Visitors hung out under the edges of the Keeper's Quarters as it was pouring rain during the open house. I'm surprised I managed to be able to get a photo without people in it there were so many people there for the event. I of course got soaked while waiting for people to move but no complaints here! Once again I must say that your pictures are great. Amazing how you find out about these things. I would have loved to be there but unfortunately I would not have been able to be there today. It may happen again if they're satisfied with how thing went today. LET'S HOPE!!

I'd heard about it a couple weeks ago from a guy at Nobska. Of corse, I wasn't driving BACK there, having been there just 1 1/2 weeks before...

I thought the tower was open too...makes me feel better it was grounds/rain!!!

If only not for the distance gap, I would have loved to go!!!!!!
