OK...

The NELL event, Lighthouses, Hot Chocolate, and You 2004 is coming up in 10 days. What I was wondering is twofold.

a) Who's going?
b) Who's staying at the Comfort Inn Mystic?

The second question is because I thought maybe we could have a "night before" gathering in the lobby. Like a mini-reunion. It seems from official emails I have gotten that many are staying there. I'd love to expand my list of "Wackos Met"!

Let me know about this. I think a small reunion could be lots of fun...

DON'T FORGET THOSE WACKO BADGES!!! laugh

Hi Greg,

Sounds like a great idea, meeting more of the WACKO community before LHHC&Y-2004. Sharon and I plan on being at the Comfort Inn, hopefully by late afternoon on Friday and ready to go on Saturday. Looking forward to meeting more people again this year.

Esther and I will be at both the HC LH&Y and at the Comfort Inn Mystic.

I hope to be there late afternoon on Friday. I'd love to get together with anyone else from the event.

I'm staying at home the night before so I won't be around for a Friday night get together. The last thing I want to do is drive up and down I-95 on a Friday night. Have fun guys.

Those attending this NELL event should look of an opportunity to win a set of 108 Lighthouse Stickers covering Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Also included is a 100 page Lighthouse Journal.

Donated by www.LighthouseStickers.com so 100% of the money raised will go to NELL for use in Lighthouse preservation and restoration.

And that makes even more of a reason why this event will be a great one! Thanks so much John!

Oooh...I hope I win. But I never win stuff, so I shouldn't get my hopes up. I'll probably lose. I never win. Never, ever, ever, ever. (You should have figured out why I'm typing this by now. laugh )

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm going to see if we can leave a little earlier on Fri. to see Greens Ledge and maybe Tongue Point and Black Rock Harbor. I missed all three of these in August, the latter two due to bad directions in Kochel...it was telling me to drive down a restricted access road, according to a) the gate across it and b) the fact that S&T showed it as Restricted when I got home. But I figured out how to get around it, so I should be able to figure it out. And Tongue Point is right there... laugh But, alas, we are on Standard time, and thus there is less sunlight... frown

Greg,

Standard time has nothing to do with there being less daylight during this part of the year - that is nature's fault. When you all switch to DST in April, all you are doing is moving the sunlight from one end of the day to the other - the actual amount of sunlight does not change..... you're just playing with your clock settings.

That's what I mean. It's standard time, so we have less sunlight in the part of the day where non-morning person me is awake. By the time the event is over, there will be no sun to see the other lighthouses. frown

Thus, I am going to suggest leaving as soon as I get home from school, thus making time to see those lights of which all are in the western part of CT.

Greg,
Detailed instructions on getting to Black Rock Harbor and Tongue Point Lighthouses can be found in Kenneth Kochel's Atlantic Coast Lighthouses, A Traveler's Guide, revised and updated by Jeremy D'Entremont. Stan and I took great pics of both lights this past summer. ACL has been indispensible to us and I understand his latest revision is even more comprehensive.

Actually, Kochel (as I call it) gave me the bad directions. When I got home, I navigated Mapquest's maze of 1-ways to find out how to get to the area. I figured it out. Tongue Point would have been visible, too, but we didn't realize it. frown

1. Greg, I think Dave was just yanking your chain.

2. Kochel's book can be a bit hard to figure out. But you seem to have figured out where you're going.

Have fun everybody!

There are many great places to gather and eat in the Mystic area. If you like steak I recommend "Steakloft" (less than 1/2 mile from the Comfort Inn. If you like seafood I recommend "Go Fish" (also located in the Mystic Village Shops near Steakloft, and owned by the same people. Of course there is Mystic Pizza (in downtown Mystic about 5 minutes away). MJ and I will be sleeping at home that night (vice the Comfort Inn) but event coordinator Tom Pregman will be at the Inn. It would be fun to meet with all of you to share a bite to eat and share lighthouse stories. I will contact Tom to see if he has anything planned.

I spoke with Tom, the event coordinator, who also feels that Steak Loft would be a great place to eat and get together to chat and share lighthouse stories.

Check out the menu at the following link.

If you are interested in getting together please email Tom tomarpregman@webtv.net and me ronjfoster@comcast.net with the time you will be arriving at the Comfort Inn and how many are in your party. We will then be able to have a better idea on how many reservations to make and for what time. We can car pool from the Inn, if you wish.
