We spent part of our last day of the trip running around Portland, ME. We got to the Portland Observatory for the first time and revisited several lighthouse we had been to in the past. If we had known our plane was to be delayed we could have made it to all of the lighthouses in the Portland area. As it was we only skipped the Twin lights of Cape elizabeth. We climbed the Portland Observatory first. If you get a chance to do this don't hesitate. the guide we had was very informative and interesting in his talk about the Observatory. He was impressed tha ti already knew much about the place, though. Here are several photos taken from the top of the Observatory- Portland Breakwater (Bug) LH Spring point Ledge LH Portland Head LH Here's a closeup of spring Point Ledge LH Here's a closeup of the Portland Breakwater (Bug) LH Here's a view of spring Point Ledge from the bug LH Here's a view of the Portland Observatory from the bug LH. We left the Bug light behind and drove out to see Portland Head and Ram's Head Ledge LH's. Here are two views of Portland Head. Here's a shot of Rams Head Ledge. This one manges to get both Portland Head and Rams Head Ledge together. Here's a view of spring Point Ledge taken from Portland Head. We left Portland Head and drove to the airport- where we had to wait for a delayed flight. We had driven about 2200 miles and seen 45 lighthouses (faux and real) including 38 that we had not seen before. the trip went well- mostly good weather, got to most of what we planned, got to some we didn't plan, good times with good people and mostly good food. The hotels all were top notch as well. hope i didn't drone on too much- I actually edited it down. I tried to make the photos interesting. hope you enjoyed the narrative. Dennis

Thanks. It was a lot of information to absorb for us as well. It took a bit to play with the photos and fine tune the narrative.
I've got more detailed info for anybody who plans on going to those areas and needs any.

A great trip for you and Esther! Lots of ground covered and lots of new lights for you. Really enjoyed them. One set that really intrigued me was the water coming up the ladders at East Quoddy. I don't think I have ever seen similar pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Dave,
Thanks. I tried to do some different things where I could- many of the lights have been posted numerous times by many people so it's hard to do so at times.
Looks like you had a good time at the Regional as well.

Portland well covered, Dennis! Thank you for taking the time to share it with us. I've never been in the Portland Observatory, and you certainly covered the view from the top very well. Great pictures! Bob

Excellent Dennis! Thanks for all the work you put into this travelog. You are really getting to be a fine photographer. Many truly fine shots and views not seen previously. It seems that Esther is getting more involved with lighthousing and there wasn't even a Poco in sight!

Dennis,
I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual tour through your many posted images. MJ and I have yet to get to Nova Scotia to see their lighthouses. It was nice to see you both at the NELL weekend. Thanks again for sharing your images.
