I remeber some of you did a trip to this light. I would like to know about the hike to the bridge. About how long and how rugged it is. I know you cant go over the bridge but I think you can get a better picture from there. Any info would be great. Fran

Try this... Info from Derith I also looked at satellite views to try to find the trail to the bridge, before I went last February, never found it. We had a great flight though with Coos Aviation over Arago. NOT expensive. 800-216-2652 He took us over Arago, Umpqua and Coquille. The land view from the pullout is pretty good, as long as you go down the trail. Enjoy your trip!

Laura did you happen to go to Trinidad light. If so,did you get a good view of it and how long did it take to get to it on the trail. Is the view like the first picture on Lighthousefriends.com. Thanks for your help.

Fran, speaking as someone who has been inside of Trinidad Head, the first view on LH Friends is from the Coast Guard property. If you are on the overlook all you see is the very top of the light via a steeper angle then in those photos. Here is a link to LH Friends view from the overlook. Trinidad from overlook

Fran, I haven't been to Trinidad, but if you are going south from Arago, have you checked on St George Reef to see if they are doing flights yet? Also, Crescent City...we didn't get there while it was open but it is a beautiful lighthouse. I would love to see the inside, or even see it in the sunlight. Do you know when you are going? I hope you have a wonderful trip, its a beautiful area. Oh, and I missed saying that our flight with Coos Aviation went to Cape Blanco too.

I am going Oct 6 till Oct 12. I am going to check on the flight also. There are so many lights to see in such a short time. We are looking to get a shuttle back to San fran because it would take to long to drive back. We are starting in San Francisco and ending around Portland on Sunday. Jenifer is looking into the St George Reef flight also. I guess we will pass on the trail to Trinidad. Not a good view and we need the time.

Sounds very ambitious, but then I tend to meander sometimes. Its even more on your plate, but don't forget that Cape Disappointment and North Head are just across the river. Enjoy!

It is a lot of lighthouses. I have gone with Jenifer before. We have done an incredable amount of lights in a week. I think on one trip we did over 45 lights. She has so much energy and sometimes its hard to keep up with her. I am in training now to make sure I can keep up. Doing the tread mill and I am going to store up on lots of sleep. To bad I cant put extra sleep on a sd card and plug it in. The one light that scares me is Point Reyes. I did it 2x but the 2nd time it was really hard to get back up. I might only go 2/3 down. Then I could watch her fly up the steps. My only concern is the R word. You know like Rain!!!!!!

Fran, I was there with Derith, she had arranged for a rep from the Coast Guard to be there to let us onto the grounds and into the tower.

Glen & I flew to Portland, rented a car and drove to Crescent City. We did it in July 2007. It was exciting to drive thru the redwoods and/or Sequoias. You were asking about trails...we went to Cape Disapointment and North Head. I thought I'd die walking to Cape Disappointment. that is reugged terrain.

Thanks Ellie. How long of a walk was it and what made it so bad. Was it up hill, sand or long walk.

Fran, its 3/4 of a mile from the parking lot. When my sister and I went it was very slick. A little more than half way it changes to a paved...but steep road. If we had known that, Nancy wouldn't have turned back. It was very much worth the climb.

There's a turnoff farther south where if it's not foggy you can get a good view. Fran, both times I was there We were escorted(once by the Indian tribe and once by the Coast Guard) and able to drive all the way up. I'd play dumb and just try to drive as far as you can. If your not there long you might just be able to get all the way up w/o seeing anyone. There's a sacred Indian burial ground to the left of the lighthouse view. Please stay out of there. I was a guest on both trips so I don't have the contact info.
