Little Traverse Lighthouse open to the public for one day. smile

The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society announced that they will be giving tours of the Little Traverse Lighthouse on Saturday October 18, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by reservation only.

Checks in the amount of a minimum donation of $20.00 or more per person may be sent to:

HSAS.
P.O. Box 812
Harbor Springs, MI 49740

A letter of confirmation with tour time will be sent to each participant.

Questions may be directed to Judy Cummings, HSAHS Coordinator, 231-439-5121

With the generous permission of the Harbor Point Association this is the first time the lighthouse will be made available for public viewing. On the day of the tour a trolley will transport confirmed reservation holders from the gates of Harbor Point to the lighthouse. Information about the history of the light will be presented as participants tour the building and grounds.

OOH OOH OOH I am SO there!!! Thank you SO much for this posting. I live about three hours from Harbor Springs but twist my arm to drive up there... hehe ... I actually got an opportunity to see this light with my dad's Sea Ray 27' boat back in 1999. We had stayed overnight in Charlevoix and he launched at the marina in Petoskey. Got some great shots. One of the photos from that trip is in John's Lighthouse Sticker project. smile

Keep me posted if you make it. We'll have to meet up. I ran it by my husband and he actually sounded fired up to go. Thought I was going to be making this trek alone, but maybe not...! smile

Any idea what time the tours are? I am going to try to call tomorrow.

If my memory serves me, the Point at Harbor Springs is one of the most restricted areas in Michigan. I wonder if they'll blindfold you on the trip out the peninsula to the lighthouse?

If not, be sure to snap some photos along the way. There won't be many opportunities like this one.

I'm still waiting for mine, Dan. Hopefully we can meet up! My hubby is staying home. My mom and aunt are going with me. We went through Petoskey on our way home from Cheboygan - colors are probably 80-90% now and I bet will peak in the next couple days. Be sure to go up M-119 to Cross Village - gorgeous drive!

Hi John,

The camera police indicated that no pictures will be permitted of any of the "cottages" in the gated community. Pictures will only be permitted at the light and on the grounds of the light. Might have to swear secrecy before we're left out!?

I'm trying to get my tour time changed to 2:30 PM to connect with 2Beacons (Mary & Jeff) and Brighteyes (Mary & Herm).

Will try and post some photos next week.

Hi Jen,

Will definitely do the drive up to Cross Village. A buddy of mine E-mailed me about a restaurant there, the Leg's Inn, that he said we need to try out. smile

The fall color situation sounds good. Hope it stays that way. It is raining in the Detroit area today.

Hi Mary,

I had found their web site and have their address installed as a waypoint in my GPS. Looks like they'll be closing down for the winter shortly.

The HSAHS has not called me back .... left two messages that I wanted to change my tour time. Will see if it's successful. confused

I'm receptive to the idea. I'll E-mail the others and see if they're interested or maybe they have a better idea that we can all go along with.
