Today it wasn't snowing, blowing or below zero (for a change). Since it was Jaker's birthday and we hadn't gotten together since his return to school after Christmas break we decided to break in my new car by taking it for a little jaunt.

We started with breakfast. Then I asked Jakers if he wanted to go see some real snow. So we headed north, first to Fulton and then on to Oswego. He thought Fulton had the most snow but Oswego didn't seem to be far behind.

Most everyone we encountered seemed to be taking advantage of the day. The lucky ones just getting out and about, the not so lucky ones were still digging out.

The harbor was pretty much frozen and the breakwater full of ice and snow. Lots of people were stopping along the road taking photos of the lighthouse. It was a real pretty sight when there was a break in the clouds so that the sun could shine on it. My photos don't really capture it as nice as it was.

In this more distant view the lighthouse is to the left. The blue roofed building is the yacht club.

The last time we were in this spot in September we saw sailboats!

Glad you & Stephen had a nice lighthousing trip. You didn't let him walk out onto the ice for pictures, did you? I seem to remember he has pulled that trick in the past.

The "jaunt" as Mombo put it, was a ton of fun! I don't think I've ever seen so much snow at once, it makes me glad I don't have to shovel anymore! laugh At our first stop in Oswego at the pier where the maritime museum is, I ventured out to the very end of the pier and snapped this photo:

Now, I realized something about a block and a half from the entrance to the pier: I had left my big telelphoto lens (300mm) back in my dorm because I wasn't expecting to get up to Oswego that day! So, aremed with my 105mm lens, I snapped some shots. Luckily, the 5 (or is it 6?) megapixels on my camera gave me enough flexibility to zoom in on the light in photoshop, giving me the close shots that I desired!
Thanks for the great birthday trip (and apple pie), Mombo! It was tons of fun (and good eatin'!)

edited to fix the link

Stephen, do we need a refresher class on posting pictures? Remember, no spaces allowed.

Your sky definitely has a different look to it than Mombo's. Good picture.

No, I eliminated the space habit, but for somereason the geocities address didn't work, so I uploaded to lighthousekeepers, and as I was copying the URL it gave me, it STILL didn't work. Finalkly, I realized I needed "http://"

As for the sky, I'll be honest: that's the work of auto levels on Photoshop (I meant to point that out, got distracted while typing the above post, and forgot...)

Looks like an image that would make a nice Lighthouse Sticker

Oh man, I spend the big bucks for a new car that can get us through the unplowed streets in Oswego and the Kid gets more nickels for his "cheater" photo! Such a deal. Maybe when Jakers becomes rich and sucessful he will remember poor old Mombo who helped to make it possible.... wink

Today I poked out all the clunkers of snow from around the wheels of the car. We sure picked up a lot of them and a ton of sand! Maybe some from when we went the wrong way down a one way street!
