Love the pictures.
Forgive the ignorance, but who's watchfull eye lives on that platform? Is that a stork? ...

Not sure, since I am not a bird watcher, but I thought it was a hawk?

Looks like a hawk to me! Great shots, Jim! I love Sanibel. Was there any other damage besides toppled trees?

Truly a treat to see the great pics, thanks for sharing.

Is the "watchful eye" an Osprey? We do have a lot of them in the New England coastal area.

Not that I'm an authritehhhh, but that's an Osprey. You see them all over the east coast near the water; especially the Outer Banks...and they usually nest in the same spot perenially I believe.

Yup, that thar is an Osprey. We used to have a pair that nested in a dead pine tree right beside Anclote Key Lighthouse. They even raised a couple of chicks during the restoration with all the equipment running directly underneath of the tree they nested in. A lot of us used to enjoy looking down into the nest from the top of the tower. A pair of Horned Owls ran them out of the nest last spring. Now the nest is gone. The Ospreys are still in the area, about 100 yards away but it just aint the same.

Those trouble makers. Sounds like they accomplished nothing but disrupting the Ospreys' household. They didn't even take over the nest!

Actually they used the nest long enough to raise a clutch of chicks and then abandoned it as soon as the chicks flew the coop.
