The United States Lighthouse Society Bulletin arrived in my mailbox today and I thought I'd pass along information on their tours for 2000. This may seem like a lot of notice, but some of these will be sold out before Christmas.

USLHS is still working on this tour, but ones they hope to see include Portage River, Mendota, Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor, Eagle River, Portage Lake Ship Canal, Fourteen Mile Point, Ontonagon. No price yet.

Norway - June 27-July 12

A trip to France Sep 19-Oct 14 is already full. Possible other Foreign tours include Denmark Jul 2000, Azores Feb 2001, Denmark Jul 2001, Spain Sept 2001.

I've not been on one of the USLHS trips, but have only heard great things about them. When you figure these prices are inclusive - except for your cost of getting to the starting point, drinks and tips -- these seem like great deals to me.

Each tour requires a $100 deposit, $250 for foreign tours.

I've left out some of the details, but if you'd like to know more, call the USLHS in San Francisco at 415-372-7255.

Funny thing, I was just thinking of Norway a few minutes ago. Was standing in the kitchen and suddenly thought, gee there must be lots of lighthouses in Norway, with all those fiords.

Here's one to whet your whistle:

And one featuring a whole bunch of wackos:

Mombo,

I'm getting a little worried that you may be way over the edge... How in the world did you come across the second site?

Did you check out the album covers on their recordings page? (I was hoping they would have some audio clips to listen to) Also wondering how many practices their 2 members from NJ get to; have to be kind of expensive to commute! Wonder if the light in the pictures is in their township?

Just kinda curious ....

Dave, just my warped sense of humor (or is that humour?) I guess. Life on the edge is great, think I've been there since birth. I actually didn't pursue that link, thought the picture was enough. Will have to delve a little further.

I did delve further Mombo. I went searching back through my archives as I thought I heard seen that group from Norway somewhere before. Low and behold I had even taken a picture.
They're everywhere! Accordion group lighthousing enthusiasts invading the US shores!

Small world, huh? Somehow they don't look the same without their "uniforms". Maybe they didn' want to stand out as much in the US of A. But they did bring the accordian!

Paul, What time did you take that picture ? You must have gotten there just after the front men for the band left. I got this picture just prior to their departure ( they had to leave early as they were booked for a gig at Portland head the next day )

Off the track -- how did this thread go from a serious listing of USLHA tours of lighthouses to accordian players?

People, people, people, there's a place for this kind of thing -- the HUMOR forum. (Then why am I posting this response here?)

I don't know about the rest of these people, but I posted an actual photo of a great group of Wackos at Cape Neddick Lighthouse, besides through a little humor you can learn a lot.

P.S. I was thinking the same thing John, but was having to much fun doing it to worry about it.

I was looking for "serious" pictures of Norwegian lighthouses, John. 1 was, 1 wasn't. So much for "serious" posts. This certainly isn't the first time we've gone from bad to worse!

Entropy, my friends, entropy.

Art's corollary to the second law of thermodynamics: All threads lead to either Humor or the FSB.

I already have a job. Who the heck wants to be serious here, too?
