We are leaving in the AM for a tour of the lights on the West Coast of the Chesapeake Bay. Starting North of Baltimore, viewing as many lights as we can down to Virgina Beach. We have ten days. Hope the weather will stay nice.
PS Thanks to MOMBO for the insights of this trip.
Jake.

Jake: Me, I don't think it was. I've never taken that trip. But I sure hope you have a great trip!

Jake,
May be too late unless you carry a laptop like Art does, but here is a great link to the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHSociety. They list the lights and have many directions available. Wish they had done this before my first trip!

Have a great (and safe) trip. Look forward to your required report.

Dave

A big dittos to the Chesapeake USLH Service web page, I discovered it a couple of months ago while planning our trip to the bay in May. It is a very informative site with some nice maps to some not-so-well-known lights. Very well done.

It was almost too late. We saw Turkey Pt, Concord Pt, Seven Ft. Knoll, Chesapeake, and Sandy Pt. All during the rain. Still had a great time. Had to take a break and stop and see our two sons, in Virginia, for Easter. Then its back to Annapolis and points South. This web site will help alot. We have looked all over for Thomas Point and Baltimore light only to find out that they are way out in the water. I Ask some of the local residents where something is and they have no idea. I asked a parking attended where we could find the Seven Ft Knoll and he said "Lighthouse what lighthouse" I took two steps around his booth and looked across the inner bay in Balitmore, and there it was. DA.
Having a great time.
Jake.

Jake,
Again this may be too late, but if you are at Sandy Beach look to the left, waaaaay down the way & you will see Baltimore. Well, there's a light there and by process of elimination it has to be Baltimore. Baltimore area has bunch more if you have good map and some time. Last time I was there didn't have either.

If you go down the West shore of the Chesapeake you can do a one day loop from DC area that includes a number of lights - Cove Point, Drum Point, what's left of Cedar Point's lantern at Pax River NAS, Point Lookout, Point No Point way out in the water from the shore just before Point Lookout, Piney Point.

There is a nice little $6 book "Lighthouses of the Chesapeake" that shows all. My copy came from Calvert Marine Museum (Drum Point). Museum is quite nice.

Happy hunting,

Dave

Well we made it home safe and sound. Traveled about 2200 miles. Went lighthousing and saw many lights along the West side of Chesapeake Bay. Would hve liked getting closer to Cape Charles but not able to do so. Really liked both Old and New Cape Henry. What a treat. Climbed Old Cape Henry and was able to photograph both lights at the same time.
