Just returned from a Michigan trip to visit family and attend an HL rep event in Holland. When we had time to ourselves, we headed north to Traverse City and visited Old Mission Point. Since we weren't in "tourist season," we were able to view the lighthouse with hardly anyone around. The people who live there used to care for the park - is this still the case? There weren't any signs, and I thought there were a few years ago. Could be wrong!

Also visited Grand Traverse - they've done a good job turning it into a museum. The woodwork is quite good. One of the pieces in the museum is the one HL made. Climbed the tower which is different from the winding stairs usually associated with lighthouses. This is more like a ladder - not a very high climb. The view was spectacular - usually is from a lighthouse, isn't it? First time we were able to see this lighthouse.

Point Betsie looks like it needs someone living there. I know the CG used to have personnel there, but it's obvious that they don't stay there anymore. Have a great photo of it covered in ice from the waves - could have used some of that ice since it was warmer than usual the day we were there.

Didn't have as much time as we would have wished for, but had a wonderful time along the Lake. Took the SS Badger car ferry from Ludington to Manitowac, WI, and could see Big Sable from the ship. This ferry has changed a great deal in the last few years. It's a 4 hour trip and very relaxing - or you can watch movies, play bingo, etc. Can even have a statesroom to sleep in. The upper deck doesn't have all the activities and is the best place to view your surroundings.

Unfortunately, we're back in the Central Illinois - 90 and humid!
