CONTINUED FROM PART I: http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=000953 The Circle Line cruised by. You can see the boat to the left of the lighthouse behind the post: The park was so peaceful, I sat down at a picnic table and had my delicious NYC bagel. Having finished my business at the park, I started walking back, snapping a final shot of the light: I waited for about five minutes for the bus to come back, to no avail. So, I just walked back to the tram. It was about 1.3 miles (I measured it later in Streets and Trips), but it was a nice walk through the town. Roosevelt Island is like a whole 'nother New York. It seems so different from Manhattan, which is just across the East River. I snapped a "good" photo of the entire Queensboro Bridge: The tram ride back was much the same as the one to the island. I took the subway back, uploaded my pictures, and added one more light to my lifelist (now at 156). The total cost of the trip: $2.00 for the subway - round trip, as I spent a short enough amount of time on the trip for it to be considered a free transfer. $3.00 for the tram ($1.50 each way) $0.25 for the bus TOTAL COST: $5.25. Overall, a great trip, and a nice "different" thing to do.

Greg,
Glad it went well. I still wouldn't try and tdo all of the Lighthouses / lightships that way but this one worked out well.
Sorry you couldn't make it to the NYC Harbor Cruise. We had a good time- even with the little problems that cropped up.

Looks like you had a nice adventure Greg. Thanks for sharing it with us. Guess there's no light in the lantern room or glass in those windows? That bus probably showed up shortly after you gave up on it. But then you got to save $.25 and had a nice walk which is the best way to see any place.

Greg, In another life in another time I worked on E86th Street in Manhattan and often lunched in Carl Schurz Park along side Gracie Mansion. If I looked out over the East River, there was the ligthhouse to occupy my mind. Thanks for bringing this light up close ... AND, not for nothing, but while Paul Simon did write the "59th Street Bridge Song" in 1966, the 45rpm chart hit (not the CD, not the MP3) was performed by "Harper's Bizarre" in 1967 ... Barry

A nice trip Greg! I've always thought about getting there but... Thanks for the pics and possible new motivation. Very different and unique light. This is what lighthousing is about. Finding an out of the way lh that not many people have seen(up close) and sharing it with the community. Being at the lh is much more fun than cruising by on the Circle Line. And you had a neat time planning and finding it on your own. Bob

Bob Bob, I'm not sure something right out in the open in one of the largest cities in the world can be considered out of the way. I'd venture to say it is "seen" by hundreds of thousands of people a week- of course 99% of them haven't a clue as to what they are seeing. Dennis
