Just returned from a family vacation Up North. After twisting a few arms I did manage to visit a few lighthouses during the trip. Photos include, USA - Old Mackinac Point, Old Mission Point, Point Betsie, White River. Canada - Manitowaning, Mississagi Strait, South Baymouth, Janet Head. Next time I know to leave the family at home so I can visit the rest.

Thanks Digger for sharing your photographs!

Now I know I really want to go to Mississagi Strait lighthouse. What a cool setting! Maybe we should have gone together. We just did White River & Point Bestie again, then finally made it to Big Sable (weather was to bad to walk the 2 miles back to the light the last three times we were there). Then we did Grand Traverse, Old Mission, Old Mac & Marquette on repeat visits, after which we did Big Bay (stayed over night), Au Sable, Whitefish Point (yes Mark indeed HL does need to make it and soon) and Point Iroquois, all for the first time. I have been wanting to do the Canadian Great Lakes lighthouses for a while and your picture have probably moved up my time table.

Great photographs Digger! Thanks for sharing them with us!

It is pretty cool how so many of us have recently been to the same lighthouses, but always a few days or weeks apart from each other. I am looking forward to the day when I meet a fellow collector out shooting photographs at the same light as me.

Thanks again for the pics digger!

Thanks Digger. I Have the early Sand Island that resembles White River in style. Great Photos, especially for those of us too far to get there to see the real thing.

I did think you would have gotten a foundation shot from underneath though. Soil must have been too rocky.

Thanks Digger. We are heading up to 3 of those lights in a couple of weeks (Michigan City to Mission Point), makes me even more anxious to be there!

Hey Paul, did you leave any treasures in the sand at Big Sable for me to find?

Yes Paul you have to visit Mississagi Strait! I have visited this lighthouse every year since 1963 (when we moved to the island). I watched as the canadians seemed to ignore it a let it almost crumble to the ground. Then since last year they finally stepped in, restored it and reactivated it. I can't tell you the emotions that swept me when I went there this year and discovered the transformation. The museum is still inside but it is hard to get in since it is now active. If they are not busy, the keepers in the restaurant will take you on a tour. The surroundings are breath-taking. There is also a campgrounds on the property. The drive out to the lighthouse is an adventure in it's self, watch out for deer and bear. Be sure to pack a picnic, you will want to stay there for the day when you see the beauty of the strait.

Nice pics, Digger. Looks like you enjoyed some nice weather. Presume your family has a summer place there..."since 1963 (when we moved to the island)" - sounds like a long commute to the cornfields!

Great Photos Digger!!

Old Mackinac Point is quickly becoming my favorite Michigan Lighthouse.

Looks like the weather was most cooperative for the trip!
