I just looked at the Lighthouse Depot sight and it says that you cannot see this light unless by boat/water. Lighthouse friends makes it sound as if you can drive right up to it more or less. Is it worth keeping that as one of our stops on our trip later this year?

Steve, Its my understanding you can no longer walk the grounds without an invitation. Others have said interesting shots can be taken from adjacent property ... Looking thru some old shots, On the left, from 1982 ... on the right, from 1997 ... inside the gate both times ... back then! Barry Barry

Barry, looks like the light wasn't inhabited on your 1982 visit? Windows seem to be boarded up? ALso looks like it was missing a lantern room then. Not to mention the roof, but that could also be washed out color in the photo?

Barry, So what's the process of getting permission? I don't want to have to wear my camouflage fatigues to go lighthousing!! Nice pics! Though I know the camera had something to do with it, it's odd how much older the first picture looks than 15 years prior. Steve

We were there in May of 2003 and took some great pictures which, of course, I cannot locate to send with this note. As I recall, the only restriction was to keep our distance from the occupied keeper's quarters. We had no problem walking the grounds, nor were we required to have permission to so do. Although I was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT and my parents worked in Stratford, I had no idea this lighthouse existed prior to becoming interested in lighthouses in the late '90s. Well worth a trip, tower and buildings and grounds are beautifully maintained.

http://www.lighthouse.cc/stratford/history.html Here's a story about why the light might have appeared "headless" Dave. It was sometime on the short side of having the lantern room refurbished and reinstalled after being beheaded for 21 years in the 60's. Found this while trying to research what color camouflages fit CT in Oct the best! :p

You can take pictures of it from outside the fence (near the driveway) and also from the wildlife area to the left of it.

Thanks, Suzanne (and everybody else). By researching, I didn't find a definitive answer on how to, or if you can approach the property, but did learn some facts about the light and got some ideas that it's still worth pursuing. Steve
