I finally reached my goal of visiting 200 lighthouses in 2 years. And I was able to do it with a few extra days. February 26th is the 2 year date from my very first lighthouse visit at the Tarrytown Lighthouse. Since then, as many of you out there know, if I haven't done something lighthouse related on a weekend, I must be home sick.
So yesterday I was in Manhattan for a Barry Manilow concert at Radio City Music Hall. Prior to the show I went to the South Street Seaport to see the Amrose Lightship and the Titanic Memorial Lighthouse (#199). Knowing I was just one away, I went over to the Blackwell Island Light on Roosevelt Island for #200 after meeting a friend for lunch and dragging her along for the walk.
It was such a beautiful day in the city. It wasn't too cold and the sun was out the entire day so it made for a great trip.
With changing priorities at home and work it doesn't look like 300 in 3 years will happen, but I plan to give it my best try!
Just thought I would share with the group seeing as how my non-lighthouse friends wouldn't appreciate the goal I just hit.

That's quite an accomplishment, Shirin! I wish I could say that I've done the same but the amount of lights I have visited in the last two years falls very, very short of your accomplishment.

Do you take a lot of pictures? If you do, how about sharing some of them with your fellow forum members.

Fantastic! I hope to hit 200 in my lifetime....
I buy something at each light I visit....if you do the same, your house must be filled to the top. Show us more of the fun pictures over the next 2 years. Again congratulations on the labor of love.

Amazing accomlishment 200 in 2 years!!! Congratulations... I know it had to be loads of fun. I don't get to anywhere near that many, which is probably a blessing in disguise considering how much film I burn up per lighthouse!

Well, the adventures and the people I've met over the last 2 years have made it well worth it. When I started out I didn't know about all the great lighthouse groups out there who organize great trips and meetings at lighthouses. Since then I've joined 10 different organizations. Some like the Long Island and Chesapeake Chapters USLHS and the New Jersey Lighthouse Society keep me busier than others. And of course I found the Harbour Lights Collectors/Forums which has helped in planning trips quite a number of times.
Now that I've reached my goal, I can go back and work on the scrapbook I started to house my pictures, brochures and other info on each lighthouse I've visited. I have everything ready to go in tons of envelopes. I just need to sit down and put it all together and take some of my writings from my lighthouse journal and add to the pages. As I go back and work on it, I will be sure to post some of my favorite pictures.

Quite an accomplishment, 200 lighthouses on two years! We've been visiting actively since 1997 and I'm sure are no where near your total. I'm guessing half of that.

Also wanted to note that you hit 200 posts today too.

WOW!!! That is unreal!! So Shirin, in what part of the country did you see all of these? Did you do the East and West Coast? Also Michigan? That is quite a feat! Congratulations!!!

Well Randy, I've been all over the East Coast from

Canada...


...to Florida...


...and as far west as Wisconsin.


As for the rest, I'll get to them the soonest I can. I plan on hitting Michigan this September and I'll be on the NELL trip to Martha's Vineyard in May. But who knows when the bug will bite and I will take off for a long weekend somewhere I haven't been before with lighthouses. Plus, there is not a single state that I've seen all of the lighthouses in that state yet. So that gives me some excuses to go back and visit again.

I've been hit by the bug the last 3 years now and have not quite made that total.

I did add 2 Lighthouses this past Weekend, and the site where a third used to be.

Here's hoping you find the time to organize all that memorabilia. I've got a ton myself to organize. I get to it in spurts.
