I'm sure a couple of you may recognize this lighthouse immediately. If you do, please hold off on identifying it until we have a few guesses from the crowd. Can you identify this light? Bob

Is it real of faux? It looks so real, but I've never seen it before. I thought I'd seen and would be able to recognise every lighthouse in the USA. Of course, I'm always discovering more...but they're usually in places like the Great Lakes that I don't know as well. This looks New England-y.

Nice picture Bob. Yes, I know it's name but haven't seen it up close and personal yet. Glad to see someone has gotten a picture for us to see. Was out on Block Island Wednesday. Had dinner at "The Oar." Great food and enjoyed a trip out on our bikes to North LIght. Will post pictures next week. Bert

Gee Bert, if it's the one I am thinking of, you were not far from it when you jumped on the ferry to Block Island.

As the kids use to say in their guessing games, "Your getting very warm, JJ!" Do you know who built that light? Bob P.S. Hey Bert, When you dined at the Oar you were right at the Marina I dock at when I stay at Block Island.

Jim, I was right across the harbor from it. We didn't have time to go anywhere but onto the ferry. Good thing we had our bikes to get from the parking lot to the ferry. I get there often so I will try for pictures the next time out. Bob, That's a neat harbor you dock at. We had a front row seat on the deck and could see the entire harbor from where we ate. By the way Bob. Gas at that Marina was up to 364.9 per gallon. Hefty price to say the least. Sharon and I stopped by the barracks this morning to say Hi, but we were told you were on a day off. Oh well, maybe the next time. Bert

OK, so it's still a secret to me. And I feel pretty knowledgeable about all the USA lighthouses.
I take it from the thread so far that it's privately built, in RI or CT and from the looks of the stonework, it's not too new.
So what is it?

Does it have anything to do with this HGTV segment?

Well I guess you guys know where the lighthouse is located. Yes, is is a faux light, but it is certainly well built. A high school classmate has a summer home on the water there and his sister owns the house next door to this light. My classmate told me, if my memory serves me correctly, that the light was built by Jack Hopper (I think that was his name) who was head football coach at some college which may have been Jacksonville State University. The light is located on Snug Harbor and right across a small inlet from Snug Harbor Marina and Point Judith Marina. Mr. Hopper certainly did a wonderful job constructing his own personal lighthouse. Originally posted by Bob M: Mr. Hopper certainly did a wonderful job constructing his own personal lighthouse. That I can agree with. That's one of the few faux lights I've seen that I actually for a point thought was authentic. He especially crafted the lantern room well. This is usually where fakes flub up - they try to make them too big, so that they can be a room, or they push them out to the edges of the gallery, or they give them an unrealistic glass pattern. This one is authentic looking in every way. Nice photo, too Bob!
