Who could resist a beautiful Autumn day on Cape Cod. Lorna and I couldn't. We drove the 120 miles out to the tip of Cape Cod, better known as Provincetown. I secured the Jeep at the beginning of the breakwater and Lorna and I proceeded to hike the seven-tenths of a mile to the beach on the other side. We then headed northwest for about a half mile and ended up at Wood End Light. The lighthouse is in fantastic shape and appears to be very well cared for for such a remote place by our standards. Here's one of several pics I took: After a pleasant stay "moving my feet" Mr. Brady, Lorna and I then proceeded southeast for about a mile and a half across the nice soft sand to Long Point Light. It's also in great shape but the paint is thinning: After our P-Town experience, we took a quick ride past Race Point but it was too far away to get a decent pic. After covering almost five miles in sand and the P-Town breakwater, we voted not to hike it out to Race Point at that time. The next stop was Highland Light: This light is in excellent shape and very well maintained. The next stop was at Nauset Light: This light was always a favorite of mine. It is in great shape but the red paint is starting to fade. We also stopped at the Three Sisters of Nauset. I'll start a new topic to post their pictures. Bob

Great photos! How long did it take you to do the Wood End/Long Point hike? May want to do that if I were to visit the Cape at some point.

It was quite a jaunt, so to speak. One must be careful on the seven-tenths of a mile of breakwater so one doesn't accidently step or slip between the rocks possibly causing an embarassing or painful injury. The breakwater walk was probably around 25-30 minutes. The walk to Wood End Light from the end of the breakwater was probably about 15 minutes or maybe a little more. Hoofing it in sand tends to slow your pace down. The walk from Wood End to Long Point is approximately one and one-half miles. Over sand and low grass the trip took roughly 30-40 minutes. You can see one light from the other without a problem if you're on the inside along P-Town Harbor and not on the ocean / Cape Cod Bay side. If anyone plans to do this trip, try and plan it for a time when the tide is low. This gives you an advantage of walking in some hard sand. Also, judging by the color of the rocks in the breakwater, there were two areas of the breakwater that might be under water on a real high tide, but I'm not really sure. We transitted the area when the tide was still falling and returned when the tide was beginning to rise. They have a big tide at P-Town. Bob

Great photos...and thnks for sharing them! I like them all, but particularly the Highland Light, because that's not the typical view we always see in photos. Judy

Looks like you had our Friday weather on Saturday. Bob, thanks to you and Lorna for making the trek out to those P'Town lights! Lucky us who get to benefit. I remember way back in '91 when I was in N. Truro saying that someday I was going to walk out to the very end of the Cape. Haven't made it yet.

It's hard not to get envious Bob. I would love to be able to take a day trip to visit some lighthouses. We went from 73 degrees last Wed. to snow on Thurs. We still have snow on the ground tonight. It was so cold on Halloween, we only had 12 trick-or-treaters. I have to agree with Judy...I love the view perspective at Highland. Nauset is also very nice with the fall colors.

Great photos Bob! I always love seeing the lights on the Cape and cannot wait to get back there next May. Next time I'm out there I think I may have to do the walk out to the Wood End light, I've only seen it from a distance. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Lovely photos Bob! Fall is my favorite time of the year and to combine lighthousing is a win-win situation! I have never been to the East Coast other than Virginia so I appreciate your sharing these! Looks like your weather has been better than Michigan...it's been nothing but rain for the last week...now almost all the leaves are gone...
