I recently returned from a trip to the east coast and although it was not specifically a light house excursion we did manage to see a few light houses. We were only able to tour Portland Head light, but this was a must see as far as I was concerned. We also saw Two Lights in the same area and Ram Island in the distance. It was a day weather wise where light houses are a necessity. The day before we viewed Egg Rock light and Rockland Breakwater.

Does anyone know if Rockland Breakwater can still be purchased at retail? I loved Portland Head but only collect Limited Editions.

We also stopped at the Lighthouse Depot. This was very different than I thought it would be but enjoyed seeing all the Harbour Lights I hadn't seen in person.

One other note-our trip took us from Washington D.C. to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, through Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. We enjoyed seeing all the monuments, landmarks and the birth place of our nation. It's a very emotional experience for someone from the west coast that has heard and read about these things since childhood. We also found the people to be very, very friendly and would love to go back someday.

Hi Gayle - You can order the Rockland Breakwater LE from Lighthouse Depot. Check it out here:

When you were at Lighthouse Depot did you stop in for a visit at the Museum of Lighthouse History in the building next door? If not, be sure to include it in your next visit! A must for all lighthouse enthusiasts!

Gayle, it sure sounds as if you had an enjoyable trip. I've lived in the east all my life and it is nice to read your thought provoking message about places that we sometimes seem to take for granted. I guess for you it was kind of like visiting "the old country"!
