I found the link to Paul & Sue's Excellent Adventure while searching for an image of Hatteras... I thought I would share the link, so those who want to reminisce a bit, can.. It was one of our favorite trips and we enjoyed meeting with a lot of our lighthouse friends at Hatteras..

Paul and Sue\'s Excellent Adventure...

I discovered this one a few weeks ago, through some Google combo. I really enjoyed it, and am again!

I've always wanted to embark on some grand adventure like that...although some may consider my "famous" 3-day 40-light "Gregspeditions" to be grand, I've always wanted to do a huge "Fortnight-o-Lighthousin'". I need to turn 17 so I can drive alone! laugh

Paul,

Thanks for sharing with us who weren't posters here at the time ...

A truly wonderful narrative ...

And Paul,

In line with the theory that great minds think alike, when I saw the one picture you posted of Ocracoke "under the arch." Well, I was there in October on the way to Cape lookout and posted these ...

Classic Ocracoke ... who hasn't seen it ...

... however, after shopping, after lunch at Howard's Pub, and after more shopping, I found myself still with two hours before the Cedar Island Ferry would depart . I went in search of the "unclassic" Ocracoke ...

To set the mood, here is the shot EVERYONE takes ...

Here's Ocracoke's 'other' picket fence, almost 180 degrees around...

"Washday Ocracoke"

Ocracoke in my backyard ...

"Solemn Ocracoke" ... (these headstones, for Mr and Mrs Spencer, are located two homes to the right of the parking lot ...) (there is another grave plot a little to the left of the parking lot, a small plot with four headstones, for the Styron family, same name as the general store on the corner)

"Artsy Ocracoke"

Anyway, these are shots you NEVER see in the photo books ... I saw them ... looked for them ... Thursday last ...

Paul and Sue,

Thank you so much for the virtual tour and allowing us to join you during your vacation. The photos and the dialog were both awesome and interesting beyond belief.

After lighthouses, do you know the second most mentioned subject of your trip? FOOD.

Greg,

When you start driving alone please let the rest of us know when and where so that we can stay off the road.

Bobo - you better watch out especially - you're only a few towns away. Come next year, if you see a green Land Rover, run. Run for your life! laugh

Barry, neat photos. I've never thought of those angles. Makes me want to do it with Currituck...

Let's see..."Currituck peeking over the fence", "Currituck with caution tape", "Fence with Currituck behind". mad

No problem Greg,

I've already alerted the National Guard, the Secret Service, the State Police, the Middlesex Sheriff Department, and the Piscataway Police Department. They will be waiting at the township town line.

Barry really nice shots. I think my trip to the Outer Banks the weekend that Hatteras reopened was one of the best lighthouse trips I have had.
Your photo's brought back alot of memories. Especially the Ferry rides! smile

Thanks, Paul, for reminding me what a great adventure watching the move truly was. My daughter and I took some terrific photos of the lighthouse on its tracks, and watched as it moved along to its new location. The event piece will always remind me of that historic event!
