I found some more pictures that my Dad took of lighthouses. Long story short - sometime in 1955, we apparently took the overnight packet from Baltimore to Norfolk and then drove down to North Carolina. My mother labeled three pictures as

Quote:
Old Lighthouse

Quote:
Old Point Comfort Lighthouses

Quote:
Lighthouses
The middle one was labeled wrongly, as the lighthouses are, of course, the Cape Henry lights. Note that there is no top on the Old Cape Henry Light.

If you are interested - here are a couple of the other photos taken on that trip.

at the dock with my sister at the rail of the boat.

tugboats - Farboil Paint building across the way

Leaving the dock - labeled

tugboats and smokestacks
Bob thinks that is the old Domino Sugar dock, but I think it looks more like what is now the Hard Rock

This is a picture from a hotel (Sheraton?) of the Hard Rock

Skyline of Baltimore - 1954

Skyline of Baltimore 2004

Fort McHenry 1954 - unfortunately it looks like there was dust and dirt on the slides when they were scanned.

This was Fort McHenry in 2000.

In 1954, we went under the Bay Bridge

Which of course was only one span then

And this is labeled

Thanks Rosalie! I can't wait to look at them on a full screen. I only have the BlackBerry at the moment. On my way to finally see Morris Island. Surprised at the 'no top' shot of Cape Henry. I will have to check that out.

When you get a chance to see it, note that the car there is our new 1954 Ford station wagon, and my mom is in the front seat (dark glasses) and you can dimly see my sister and me in the back seat.

You can kind of compare with the pictures taken 50 years later

In this one (also taken in 2004), my husband is in the 1985 Mercedes

Thanks Rosalie...

It's great to see those 'then-and-now' photos.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Rosalie. I love the old shots of Baltimore Harbor as well as the lighthouses. Especially in color. A rare sight indeed for the times.
