We've been back from our trip to Maine for a couple weeks, and I'm just now getting the time to post some pictures. It wasn't meant to be an "all lighthousing" trip, but we did see a LOT of lighthouses! We stayed in Portsmouth, NH the first night, and visited Portsmouth Harbor Light the next morning: From the Fort, there's a reasonably good view of Whaleback: Bonus Round ! ! ! There's also a view of Portsmouth Harbor Life Saving Station: We stayed in Portland the next night, but skipped the lights in the area since we'd visited them before. We did stop a Lighthouse Depot; picked up the Ft Washington Bell Tower. It's a cute little guy! The next day we headed up to Bar Harbor, where we stayed several days. We spent a day in Acadia National Park, which was barely enough time to scratch the surface. That evening, we drove down to Bass Harbor Head Light: Everyone takes this shot, but the sunset WAS nice: We spent several days in Bar Harbor. One morning I took a lobster boat ride out to Egg Rock Light: From Bar Harbor, we travelled northeast on Route 1, stopped by Prospect Harbor Light. I really liked this one, and would place it high on my wish list for an LE: Tomorrow: Sunrise at Campobello, and the Quoddys! Bruce

Great trip Bruce! and photos. Looked like you crossed the yellow line for you shot at Portsmouth Harbor. We stayed in Acadia National Park many years ago for two weeks and barely scratched the surface! tic Bob

Bruce, Welcome back! We just got back from Maine, too. We went last year and saw 30+ lighthouses by car. This year we trailered our 15' boat with us and managed to see 30 again (including 5 on Cape Ann, Mass, and 2 in NH). We buzzed around every little island on the Penobscot Bay and other areas along the coast. Had a blast!! My favorite has to be Tenants Harbor. My least favorite, only because of the desolation and rocks- no grass there, was Saddlback Ledge. If I can figure out how to post pictures I will because we got some great shots. Only 13 left to see in Maine. There's always next year!!!

Bruce,
Great pictures. Looks like you had better weather than I did in NH andf ME.
How did you get that picture of Portsmouth Harbor?
Did you take a chance or ask someone's permission?
Great shot either way.
Looking forward to the rest.
Dennis

Bruce, your pictures are the greatest. I am very partial to Maine lights as I believe Maine has one of the finest coastlines anywhere. Keep them coming. WOW! Bert

Dennis & Bob, If memory serves, it was a blue line, and I actually strayed from it as opposed to crossing it. It's often easier to get forgiveness than permission. But so far, no barbed wire was climbed over! I'll post more tonight. Bruce

Very nice Bruce. Thank you for sharing those with us. What kind of camera did you use? Tim - Keeping the flame lit...

Sue, about eight other people did! I was elbow to elbow with other "shutterbugs" on some rather crowded rocks. Tim, I used a Nikon Coolpix 950. It gets great results but, unfortunately, only 2.9 megapixels. Any print over 5x7 would start to look digital. Anyway . . . on the road again! We arrived in Eastport - billed as the easternmost city in the US - in the early evening. Not much going on, but they must like our kind of people, since they had a restaurant especially for us: That would be the Canadian spelling . . . We picked up some hot chocolate mix after dinner, so we could drink it the next morning at 5:30 or so as we sat on the balcony at our motel and watched a new day begin for the USA: Later we drove to Lubec - billed as the easternmost TOWN in the US - had some breakfast at a local eatery, and then headed to the easternmost LIGHTHOUSE in the US: West Quoddy Head Light. It's on of my favorites; deserves few pix: Claudia and I were alone on the rocks this time. After a nice walk around the grounds and a stop in the museum in the keepers quarters, we headed back to Lubec, to the bridge over to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, which I'll cover in my next post. Bruce, Once again your photos are great. I've yet to make it to West Quoddy, but your pictures have the old adrenalin flowing. Have to get up there soon! Bert

Wonderful pictures!! Makes me wish that I had spent more than just a weekend in Maine looking at the lights. But as someone said, there is always next time! Keep those beautiful pictures coming!

I agree- great photos and I'd wish we had gotten that far north in Maine.
Haven't made it past Arcadia yet. Try try again.
Hope you paid attention to the tides .

More great photos Bruce. Must have been neat to see that sunrise! I just checked my notes on our trip in April. That line at Ft. Constitution was green then! There were a bunch of vehicles down by the lighthouse when we were there so I didn't even think about going down there. Wish I had thought to look for the life saving station.
