We are off to see the Lighthouses, in particular, Fort Jefferson at the Dry Tortugas, American Shoal in Florida and then picking up a few along the East coast that we haven't seen before. Daufuskie Island, S.Carolina,& Sapalo, Georgia. I'm sure were see more but we've seen most of them. I don't want to push my luck.

Good luck Jake. The weather has to be much better than the Great lakes area right now. If you need a carry on, let me know!

We took the Yankee Freedom II out of the Key West, Florida, 70 miles due West to the Dry Tortugas National Park. We saw the Harbor light there at Fort Jefferson. We also saw the light at Loggerhead Key, which is a short distance away but can been seen from the Fort. Great, all day trip. I recommend going on the bigger of the two boats that go out to the National Park.(two different companies) We had some rough water for the the last 30 miles of the trip, but the larger boat is more stable. While enroute, we also saw Sand Key light, and Rebecca Shoal light. The Captain let passengers into the steering house and pointed out the different lights along the way.

While in the Keys, we saw American Shoal, Sombrero Light, and Alligator Reef.

Heading further up the East coast, we tried to see Sapelo Island light. They only take a boat out there two times a week, and guess what, we didn't get there on the right day. Had to settle for a view from the the Telescope.

We then went to Hilton Head (Sea Pines) and took a boat ride to Daufuski Island to see Haig Point and then took a Island tour to see the Bloody Point keepers dwelling. The tour of the island was an adventure.

What can I say, but we had another great trip and time viewing lights. Arrived home safe & sound after just under 4,000 miles not counting the boat rides.

Hi Jake,

Sounds like a good trip. Glad it was a safe one.

Will you share the way you got out to Daufuskie? I want to go this summer.

sme here, Jake. We're going to Charleston SC & Savannah for spring break. I'm jealous of your travels the past year. You have definitely covered some ground!

You get tickets for the boat ride to Daufuskie Island, go right to the Hilton Head (Sea Pines) light at the Harbor. There is a small booth that sells tickets for the ride to the island. You can also take a boat ride and city tour of Savanna Ga. at the Same location. Pick up those coupon saver books that are around most places. The book had a coupon for $2.00 off. Boat ride to Daufuskie was about 16.00 each with coupon and the tour of the Island was $10.00 each. You see the Haig Point Light from the boat. (Tell the captain you need to take photos, he will stop out in front of the light and then continue when you have your photos). You have to take the island tour or rent a golf cart to drive and see the Bloody point keepers quarters and oil buildings. Haig Point Light is a B&B and is on private property, and we did not see it on the island tour.
