Played hookey today and traveled to Mystic to see the refurbished Avery Point, Mystic Seaport, New London Harbor, and New London Ledge. Gorgeous day for lighthousing. . . .




There's a brick walk that's about 1/4 mile in length. We parked near the beginning of the walkway and walked its length with the hope of seeing the brick we had bought when they began looking for donations for the refurbishment a number of years ago. The blocks are laid out in sections that are filled according to the year of the donation I think. I figured I'd have to write to find out where our "brick" was located because there are so many. Gave up looking after about the 4th section. Stan was behind me, strolling along and I heard him say "Here it is." I replied "Yeah, right!" and walked over to where he was standing and he wasn't pulling my chain--what are the chances of finding the needle in the haystack on the first try!! What a way to take the day off, Sandy; I'm so envious! Good shots - how special to have your own brick. New London Ledge is one of my favorites - yup, it's a haunted one! I played hookey, too, and started a book on the history of the Outer Banks. It was a rainy, stormy day in Houston - lots of thunder! Good day for reading and much needed rain - two days in a row!!

Also...funny...I never thought of you and Stan as "Stanley and Sandra"...it's always Stan and Sandy...

Might have, but didn't recognize them, so didn't retain them.

Stan remarked that there are back-to-back whole sections with memoriam bricks honoring the memory of submariners. Electric Boat is nearby so it makes sense that their names would be memoralized.

We saw Avery Point sans lantern room a few years ago--even have a picture of me standing in front of the lantern room which was located in an asphalted area next to a building. It sure is striking to see it all together and was well worth the trip, about 2.5 hours from home (which is now Kent, not Washington Depot).

I called in sick also and went to philly PA to see Turtle Light. It was so nice out. Great pictures Sandy. Have you made any decision on when you are comming in for the Wild 2006 yet?
