I can hardly believe that the weekend is over!! What a wonderful weekend it was! Beaconfollower and I went
on a bus trip sponsored by Friends of Flying Santa and went to four lights on Cape Cod. We got to go inside and
hear all about Highland Light, Chatham Light, Nauset Light and Nobska light - I actually climbed all but Nauset
Light (they didn't know that we were coming!). I was surprised that my knee actually held out for all the climbing bu
I didn't have any problems. On Sunday, we went to Block Island and saw both lights there - we actually rented
mopeds as it was just too hot and too long of a walk - what a picture we made!! If anyone hears stories of strange
older ladies riding mopeds on Block Island, you will know that it was us! After leaving Block Island, we went and saw
Point Judith - what a beautiful light! I will post a picture of her later. It was hard coming back here today and then
having to go to work tomorrow. Now we have to wait till October to see more lighthouses. frown

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Nice picture of Pt. Judith, RI. It is one of my favorite places. Sharon and I like to eat at Aunt Carrie's not far from the light. Great food and only an hour away from home. I always enjoy the ocean breeze at Pt. Judith. If you have more pictures, please post them for us to see, I would enjoy them. Always nice to get someone elses perspective on photography.

Bert -

Have you ever gone down the path next to the fence while at Point Judith? We found some people coming out of the path and asked them and they told us that it went right down to the beach where you could see Pt. Judith quite clearly. It was a 5 minute walk through the rushes and we were kidding around about, what do you say to 911 when you fall in there and break your ankle "please come into the rushes next to the coast guard station". The walk wasn't fun as I kept falling off my sandles but it was worth it to get a nice view of the lighthouse without the fence around it.

Eskilady,

Sounds you two had a great lighthousing weekend! Can't believe you didn't ask someone to take a pic of you two on your mopeds...

The "shaky" picture may be caused by being extended to maximum zoom on your camera - the length of the zoom will cause any movement to show up in the pic. Even a light breeze can have an effect. (This is true for any zoom, not just one of those big hummers that Gary likes to use.) Can't help but notice my favorite part of lighthouse pics - those blasted power lines! Wish they would bury the things to improve the view!

Dave

Hi Eskilady
I'm moving you topic on your trip to the Map Room which is a more appropriate category.
Sounds like you had a great time.

We did take pictures of each other on our mopeds but mine was not for sharing. It is a picture to be laughed over in years to come. And I think that my picture is shakey because I actually edited it, made it smaller and rotated it. The other pictures I did not mess with and they look fine. Maybe I made it too small or something. But thanks for the thoughts. I don't mind having the power lines in the picture - I am so glad that I don't have the chain link fence. smile

Here is another picture - sort of using Gary's guidlines but not very well.

Yes and we did have a glorious time. Weather was perfect although quite hot. It was so nice having the 4 lighthouses on Cape Cod open just for our bus tour. No waiting in line to climb.
I loved seeing Southeast Light on Block Island.
We had a blast on the mopeds and yes there are pictures, and eskilady best not show mine or she is in BIG trouble.... laugh

Sounds like you had a great time!! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

We visited (and climbed) Nauset Light several weeks ago. Did you get a chance to visit the Three Sisters Lighthouses that were nearby?

Now where is the pic of you on a moped?

Yes, we had visited Three Sisters but that was last year. This year we just stopped long enough to take pictures. Beaconfollower told me that she would torture me horribly if I dared to post the pictures of us on the mopeds (she said she would never travel to lighthouses with me again and that would be horrible!!). So you will just have to use your imagination!!

We didn't get to climb Nauset this time because they forgot that we were coming but we did climb the other three and it was great!

Ok, where was Goat Island? I don't remember that from Cape Cod or Block Island. It's a beautiful light and your pictures were great. Thanks!

Goat Island is just offshore from Newport RI. It is also known as Newport Harbor.

Goat Island is not even off shore. It is on the grounds of one of the big hotels in Newport, RI whose name escapes me just now. We were standing right next to it when I took the picture. Rose Island was just off the coast there - too far for my camera to get a good picture of.

Now I know what lighthouse you were talking about. I know of it as Newport Harbor. Thanks.
