There were a lot of lighthousing opportunities on the way to meet the gang at Eastham for NELL's LHHC&Y weekend. Especially fun was my first venture into Rhode Island, so starting there... Point Judith I think I fell in love here with yet another lighthouse. My parents claimed they named me for the actress Judy Garland. Wonder if I could change that? The active Coast Guard Station at Point Judith The back view of the CG station. The Coasties were having lunch...cheeseburgers on the grill! I lightened this one up so you could see the Coasties at work. Put on your sunglasses...this was facing the sun, but I liked the way it shows the orientation of all the buildings at Pt. Judith One more lighthouse view...I really like this place! More from this trip coming... Judy

Post #2 in Rhode Island.. We visited 13 of Rhode Island's lights in two days on this trip before heading into MA. Watch Hill was actually the first RI light on our stop before Point Judith... After leaving Point Judith, we headed for Beavertail. Here, the wind had kicked up, and it was bitter cold...gloves, earmuffs, etc. required. And a closer look at Beavertail's tower More coming in a bit... Judy

Nice pictures of Point Judith and Beavertail.
We took a Cape Cod lighthouse tour, through the U.S.Lighthouse Society, and combined that with 2 weeks after to see more of the New England lighthouses. My wife, also a Judy, definitely wanted to visited Point Judith light, for obvious reasons. We trully enjoyed the lighthouse and CG station, although, the skys were overcast that day with some fog, not the very beautiful conditions shown in your pics.

Nice pictures, Judy! I remember Beavertail from a LHC&Y trip a couple of years ago. We also hit Watch Hill, which I think must be the coldest spot on earth in the wintertime! My best, Paul Conlin ALF Secretary

Great shots, Judy! Wish we could have gone to RI on our drive to Maine - still was fun, wasn't it? Especially our detour into NYC - right?! Well, it was different anyway!

Did the Coasties feed you too? We gave them lots of opportunities, but no. Even hung around the grill. That was classic, Grace. You and I should have been in an open top convertible, considering the adventure we had...what a team! Thanks to all for looking through the photos. I will post some more tomorrow. Judy

Like all your pictures so far Judy. Can't wait for more... Have fun with the NELL group and tell them all "hi" from me.

Thanks for sharing your pics, Judy! Rhode Island has so many great lights that are easily accessible in most cases. I always enjoy different peoples' photos of the same lights because of the different perspectives and different weather conditions occuring at the time the photo is taken. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, posting pictures at the CF is one of the things that makes this Net site a great place to visit. Keep those pics coming! Bob

Very nice Judy. The last time John and I were at Point Judith, we took the high speed ferry over to Block Island for the day. Another fun adventure.

Crossing the bridge into the Newport area... Goat Island, also known as Newport Harbor LH sits close to the foot of the bridge. It's easily accessible through the Hyatt hotel property... Rose Island can also be seen from this area. This is one I sure would like to get up close & personal with. Anyone here had the good fortune to stay at this lighthouse? Another one in the nearby area is Ida Lewis. You can only get so close because it's now part of a private club. The storyboard near the entrance shows the lady herself... And chasing the last light of the day, we stopped at Castle Hill. Whoah, was it cold here or what! But what a pretty light! More coming later, Judy

Wonderful shots, Judy. I'm hoping to make it to RI in June - maybe after Dave's trip, assuming I can make it to that one. I made a lot of inquiries into doing the keeper for a week at Rose Island many years ago. If I recall correctly, there was about a two year wait and I couldn't find anyone who would sign up with me that far ahead of time. Maybe now I can try again!

For those visiting the Newport area in the warmer weather, there is a water taxi from Newport to Jamestown which has a stop at Rose Island. It is a very reasonable cost and you can actually get off at Rose Island and catch the next boat to return. http://www.conanicutmarina.com/ferry.html

Jim, do you have some of your own photos taken at Rose Island that you could post? I know I would like to see them.
