Heard tonight at a Bill signing that Point Lookout is set to be released in the next year sometime. This would be the first HL released of a light on the Potomac River (Its actually at the point where the Ches Bay meets the Potomac River).

Bryan Thanks for the scoop. Always nice to get a little insight to the goings on at HL.

Hi Bryan,
Hope all's well with ya. Thanks for the info on the Point Lookout light. Never having visited before, what kind of light is it?

Sorry, this one doesn't appeal to me at all. Just looks like a big house with a small lantern on top.

But this is the most haunted lighthouse in america. Maybe HL could make it with its very own ghosts. lol.

The view from this one is fantastic. At the lighthouse, you are surrounded by water at three sides (almost four sides). A lot of history with Point Lookout. It was a Hospital for a prison camp during the civil War. Now a weather tracking station for Navy. It can be toured once a year, I think in October. You have to see it in real life. I think it is neat looking and can’t wait for it. Thanks for the Heads up, Chesapeake.

Thanks Bryan for the news on another Chesapeake Bay area light! Too bad I missed the Bill signing in my own back yard in Virginia, however had to make a trip to Bangor, Maine this weekend to look for housing in preperation for school. Another light to put on the wish list!! Christopher

On a visit to this light in April with our chapter of USLHS, we were advised that the Coast Guard is going to turn the light over to the park, and is going to do $1 million in restoration back to the 1920-30's era. They are also going to move their tower and equipment down the beach away from the light. The other buildings that originally belonged with the lighthouse will also be renovated. Being from this area, I look forward to HL doing this light.
