Has any one else heard about this new release to be previewed at Rosemount. It will have a working flashing light that will blink the famous "I Love You' flashing code. The lighthouse will be romantically dedicated to someone special in honor of their anniversary.

ps It will have crashing waves etc, depicting the volitale nature of this lh's placement in the ocean.

That sounds like a first here Bob! That would be a very interesting piece to say the least! I hope it's true - from seeing pictures/drawings of it, it would be a great addition to the collection!

Very interesting..

Could this be the latest innovation from HL? There certainly have been many surprises in 2002 to make things really interesting.

There is also a really nice article about this lighthouse in the Spring 2002 The Keepers Log from the United States Lighthouse Society....

A very reliable dealer has informed me that his Harbour Lights rep is VERY excited about the upcoming Minot's Ledge piece. He confirms that it WILL have:

---Wild, crashing waves

---A tower that lights up

He also indicated that he thought it would be an open-edition piece. This, however, seems unlikely to me. My money's on a "special" limited edition version.

The new light from Cape Cod also looks interesting, but the dealer didn't spill any details about that one.

I've been watching this post with ANTICIPATION!!! I hope that the Minot's and whatever else may be coming from the Cape Cod area is in fact reality.

A question! Having already made Minot's as a LIMITED EDITION, will the next one be a SPECIAL EDITION or an OPEN EDITION?

VERY INTERESTING! NOW THE WAIT!

We've already had 2 limited editions of St. Augustine( old and new). Why shouldn't we have 2 limited editions of Minots Ledge? I'd buy it. The only thing is will HL get the water color correct the first time.

Also had old and new Morris Island, 2 versions of the very same light. The 2 versions of St. Augustine are different towers, as would be the proposed Minots. Sounds like this will be a very interesting light.

I believe it would behoove HL to release the old version of Minots as a Special Limited Edition. All the Wackos like smaller edition Limited Editions and would be sure to buy it even though the structure no longer exists.

An open edition of something that doesn't exist anymore may not have the appeal to the Wackos. Why have an open edition of a non-best seller when making it limited would guarantee a sell out and an early retirement.

I do hope the rumor is true and I look forward to adding it to my collection.

I think limited editions of the previous lighthouses is a good Idea. If this one is a glow I won't buy it. Even if it flashes,I love you. Even if it told me "I love You".
I wouldn't buy it.
Must be Limited to be Special. Not fancy lighting. That 4,000 number that was used for Old St Augustine works for me.

I took this picture of a black and white posting on a bulletin board at the Scituate Light. Is it safe to assume that this may be the the one HL might be making?

If this is the special [edited to protect the secret] , might it be a timed release as are various other special lights?

Remember, HL has said that no longer will be issue an OE before they have issued an LE. If this light is produced, it will be the first time it has been produced, so an LE it would be. While it may have been the forrunner of the current Minots light, it is a different light.

I would really like to see the old or the first or the forerunner of the present Minot's Ledge light done. Now that would be a masterpiece! Bob, thanks for the picture.

Any word yet, on that Cape Cod light that the dealer wouldn't mention about?

Interesting choice. I get the "I Love You" part but when the light came crashing down wasn't that "Love on the Rocks"? Do we even know if the 1-4-3 sequence was used in the old light? 50 years, hmmmm, isn't that a Goldenanniversary???? I would guess that this light would be a timed edition.

Terry,

The Little Lights are not Harbour Lights. In the fine print (and on the bottom of the LLs) it says distributed by Harbour Lights. They are not OEs, they are purely gift ware and sized and priced as such. They are intended for the tourist type crowd.

Bill said it is an open because they already did a limited Minot's and he wants it available forever so that anyone can buy it and give it to a loved one and say I Love You...

I saw a picture of it in the new brochure today and it looks very interesting..

The existing stone version was done. Not the Rod iron version. If Bill was to release the stone version with a blinking, light as a GLOW I think that would follow the Harbour lights Standards. Harbour Lights in the past has done many GLOWs that outdid the L.E.

This Light was located in the same place, but it is a totally different light. It was washed into sea. I feel that this light falls under their promise that no new light shall be produce unless it is produced as a L.E. first.

If Bill wants it to be available forever, make the GLOW later.
Alternatively, a WORST solution would be to make the Edition size 10,000.

How about this solution. Do something like the Anchor Bays. For just this special edition, the first 2,000 or even 4,000 have something different on it with a limited number. Then after it, make it a GLOW. Maybe some people could be added to the limited version or a music box with a sound of the flashing waves. Or better yet "Green Water"

Thanks for clearing that up for me Dave. Thats why I ask questions here, I know someone will have an answer. I don`t own any of the LLOMs so I`ve never had a chance to go over the fine print.

This will be a "Special Edition" memorializing the lightkeepers who lost their lives when this original tower at Minot's Ledge was lost in a Hurricane.

It is listed as an "Open Edition".

Expected to ship in August or September.

Sorry to say, I won't be standing in line for it. The faux crystal/plastic/glass/whatever waves are totally unrealistic and TOTALLY out of character with the rest of the line. What were they thinking? I'd expect to find something that looks like this at the local dollar store. Having seen this, I now treasure my La Jument piece---with its spectacular RESIN wave---all the more.

This will be a definite purchase for us.

Just this year (January) MJ and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. We booked a room at the Inn at Scituate Harbor for a few days. I surprised MJ with a special diamond ring, to honor our years together, and I presented it to her within sight of the present day Minots Ledge Lighthouse. I had originally planned a secret boat trip out to the lighthouse (where I was going to give her the ring), but due to foul weather, had to settle for the next best location, the Adams' (as in John Quincy Adams) Estate which is very close to the lighthouse. It was blinking 1-4-3.

We look forward to the release of this blinking lighthouse by Harbour Lights.

As long as it doesn't have "Great Lighthouses of the World" on the bottom I may consider buying it even though it is an open edition. I will have to see it before I decide one way or the other. It may be a little to cutesy for me. I'm also reserving my opinions on the Rigid Hull Inflatable as I can't think of it as a real CG boat. Twenty three years of riding white hulled SAR boats is a lot to overcome when it come to this red "innertube".

Yikes, an acrylic wave? I don't think I care for that. (I don't do the "Love" stamps either. Too mushy for me! )

I saw the picture of the new "Old Minots Ledge" and I love it. I looks like a fabulous piece! Is the wave acrylic? If it is, it should look really fine under the light in the curio.

I'm buying it!

It has a computer chip to control the flashes and it has a light in the base which you will need to plug in to an outlet to get power...

I don't know if I would "plug-it-in". Is the power cord detachable so you can just display the piece itself in a curio without the cord showing?

Bob, I hope the cord is detachable also. It wouldn't look right in a display case otherwise.

Bill,
I agree that this piece certainly doesn't look like something made my HL. In fact, it looks much more like the lighthouses that Lenox has been making, since most of them have the same type of waves.

Saw this piece in person and Rosemont and personally I like it. I'm disappointed that it is not a LE, but I ordered one anyway. I agree with the person that said it looks more like a piece by Lenox than something from HL. 1----4----3

I'm with you Randy. When I first saw the photo, I thought it was rather interesting, and should be added to the curio. After seeing it at Rosemont I was totaly blown away. Even though it doesn't fit my Great Lakes theme - I have to have it.
Now I need to figure out how to add an outlet in the curio.
