Rumor has it that Hatteras on the move will be the event piece for 2000. Can anyone confirm this?

Another Cape Hatteras! Well you have to admit it is probably the most well known LH in the United States. Anyone know the size of the new piece?

I know that I complained about the size and price of this year's event piece, but I put all that aside if Hatteras on the move is the 2000 event piece.

What a fitting piece for the events this year. I'm really looking forward to this one!

Hatteras on the move should make a great Event Piece - it will be really interesting to see how HL designs this piece!

I hope you all are right on this. I would love to have a Cape Hatteras piece, that is not a glow, and this would be a great way to do it.

Couldn't agree more, Sean, about CH-OTM. If Y&A continues the trend they started w/ Kilahuea (sp?) it'll probably be the same price as an LE, $65+.

Rumor has it that Cape Hatteras "on the move" might be the size of Navesink and the light may actually move on a short length of track. Isn't that special!

Tim, you forgot....
GAL
Great American Lighthouses... Cape Hatteras

Plus if you stretch it a bit, I believe that the GLOW Hatteras is at 6 different flag versions…. A, B, C, D, E & F, in fact G may already be out, or it will be soon (not tracking it).

Is the GAL version the same mold as the GLOW?

As big as Navesink? Moving on a track? Whoa, thats ambitious. The concept of CHOTM is interesting, though I wonder if collectors want something real big - at least horizontally.

If the rumor is true about the RCH (rolling Cape Hatteras) being as large as Navesink, we will all finally have another HL to balance off Navesink in the display case. Of course, that particular curio better be made of concrete with glass bricks for shelves. I hear Lionel Trains is supplying the two sections of track needed to make the RCH mobile.

Tim...

The Great American Lighthouses (GAL) was the name first given to the GLOW series. CH was the first of the line. However the name "Great American Lighthouses" was already copyrighted so the GLOW name was created. The label is what is was changed starting with the "B" second year items.

However, the flag on A pieces does NOT have a copyright etched into the flag. Starting with "B", there is a copyright notice.

If they keep making re-peats there will be no dealers in 2010. Hatteras on the move is the worst thing that they can do. Then to make it an event piece, even worse. There are several lights that have to be done there is no reason to do another Hatteras. Its a great light but its already been done and done and done and done. Enough is enough. Lets get on to making the collection with different lights, not re-peats,

A repeat is a great idea knowing the historical nature of the event. HL has
made the correct choice not only for the collection but for business as well . With SOL as the YR 2000 light and CH on the move as the YR 2000 event light I can not think of a better way to bring HL to more people
not only increasing sales but awareness of our great maritime heritage .

For all of the other HL's I'd have toagree with Jake. But Hatteras is such a world renowned light, it's move was such a monumental event, that a special Hatteras on the Move piece is very much worth the repeat. I agree that there are many other great lighthouses in American that haven't been done yet. But to pass up such a monumental event as the move of the largerst light in America would be a big mistake!

I think it will also draw more people into the events and introduce more people to Harbour Lights collecting. It's a great move by Younger and Assoc. I can't wait to buy mine.

Another rumor has just been released on the Cape Hatteras on the move piece. It will be a series of one called CHASE...Cape Hatteras Admiration Society Edition. So head for your dealers and tell them you want to be involved with the CHASE!

Thanks for the great pictures JC. I knew about the GAL vs GLOW naming thing, but this helps show the difference and answers my question. I'd say the answer is 'no' the GLOW is not a remold in the sense that CH2 is a remold. Imo the adding of (c) and date creates a minor varietal like the re-etching of windows and doors on Coquille and others.

By the way - whatever happened to the pictures of those - was it 7? - Coquilles we stared at for an hour in San Diego?

Now if BY is truly going to cut down on his appearances, this means the Event Piece (whatever it is) will wind up with a much smaller edition size?

Mombo - while Bill is scaling back the number of signing events, it might be possible that the number of collectors he sees won't decline much as the regional events can draw bigger crowds.

Tim - it was 5 Coquilles in the display case at Reunion 97. Somewhere I have photos of those 5 in a row. Here's a link to information on those mold variations:

If CH-OTM will be the size of Naveasink and the price of Kilauea, thats a deal! I'd pick one up for sure.

Hey JJ, ... Don't forget to bend your knees when you pick it up. If it's as heavy as Navesink, you might hurt your back if you're not careful.

I am inclined to agree with Jake. I believe Cape Hatteras has been duly honored. There are many other lighthouses that have their own stories waiting to be told. Hatteras is great, but please not another rendition . . . . this time with feeling.

Len & Jake,

I admire Great Lake and New England lights, Saugeries being my favorite, but I've been to the top of Hatteras in a Nor'easter where the waves crash together in two directions and the spray reaches the height of this noble spire.

I've also been atop when you look out on a calm sea at Diamond Shoals to the end of the horizon.

My friend, it doesn't get any better than that. Her original LE is bland and unimpressive. Her glow continues on and on. Honor her move with an LE that is as impressive as the event itself.

She is our candle in the wind and she isn't going out. A real symble of the true American spirit. Let her light shine in our hearts forever.

I know that Hatteras has been done before, I even have the GLOW, but we must remember that we are only a handful of Wacko collectors and since I am #30,596, there are at least 30,000 other collectors. I am sure that many of them would like another Hatteras, or maybe a first Hatteras.

Moby couldn't have said it better!
CH1 is a fantasy; CH2 is is a black and white striped Grosse Point LE. Everbody has a CH Glow. Give us an accurate, inspiring limited edition of Cape Hatteras on the move that does her justice!

I don't know where the rumor came from about 'big as Navesink'. Rest assured, it won't be.

It will be 'LE' size and will be MUCH better than the Fraser one. So when might one of the first EVENTs be where you can purchase this? Think Cape Hatteras, Memorial Day weekend, 2000. I know there will be quite a few WACKOs there. I believe the NPS has scheduled a 'grand reopening' for that weekend.

2000 Event Piece!
The Cape Hatteras, NC on the move would be an excellent choice! Harbour Lights consider (1) sold! I will happily set aside a special area, to display this Event Piece!
