2001 Will mark the 10th Anniversary of Harbour Lights as a producer. (The planning started about 4 years earlier.)

Will Harbour Lights produce a special piece to mark this milestone?

Did you know Navesink was originally developed to mark HL's 5th Anniversary?

What criteria do you think Harbour Lights might use to select such a lighthouse?

What lighthouse do YOU think Harbour Lights might produce for this special occasion?

Could that possibility be the reason that it was not used for the new "Beckoning Beacons" piece?

Just think, if Navasink was to be the 5 year anniversary model, the 10th anniversary will be so big you will need to reinforce the cabinet and floor under it! Won't come by UPS, will come freight collect.

It would be great if HL's does make a special 10 year anniversary lighthouse. However, not to change the subject too much, but why don't we think of something to do for the Youngers and the HL staff to celebrate their 10th year. They have done so much for their collectors over the last 10 yrs. I haven't thought of what we should do but maybe if we all put in some ideas we could come up with something thoughtful.

Rather than a "lighthouse" per se....IMHO I think that a Memorial Piece should be considered for the 10th anniversary. A Keeper, his wife and a child depicted inside of a partiallly opened lantern-room. A testament to the "Keeper's Family".

How about a special leather-bound, hardback, gold embossed coffee table book of HL throughout the years, from beginning to present. There could be pics of Bill getting HL started, even some childhood pics. Some pics of his family as well as the artisans at work, and those doing research. Also include stories of various different trials and errors, along with comical insights. Maybe some pics of some of the employees. The list goes on... We could then take it to various HL events and have Bill, and some of the other staff members sign it. Just a suggestion!

I have an idea for a "great big" 10 Year Anniversary Piece. How about the 3 lighthouses that sit on the shore at Duluth, MN. Now that "baby" would be huge!! It would put Navesink to shame for size! Just a thought! Anyone agree?

Unless you're speaking of Pharos of Alexandria, I am totally clueless as to the secret lighthouse. Can someone enlighten me?

The great lighthouse of Egypt would be fitting for a tenth year anniversary!!

As to a possible gift for the 10th year anniversary. How about a scrap book made up of photos of each person's collections with a note to Younger & Associates about your enjoyment in collecting Harbour Lights, etc. I figure they would love to have photos of us all in a classy scrapbook to keep in the office--very personal.

I know Bill (& Bob) and the crew would love it. My wife does creative memories so it would not have a cost beyond getting your photo together and mailing it & your letter via snail mail.

Any Takers?

Let me know what you think.

Tim, I love the scrapbook idea. When Kim Andrews saw my creative memories book of lighthouses she said I would be receiving all of her photos in the mail to make her a book. If the memory book for the Yongers comes to pass I'll be happy to help with some the work.

That sounds like it would be a beautiful way to show our appreciation for the perfectly gorgeous lighthouses they have made for us all to collect. Whoops----my dealer just called and she has my Society Piece (Boca Grande) in! Have to go! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

I have a vague idea of today's 'scrapbooking' - does anyone have photos or scans of what these pages might look like? Does everyone do their own page? Or how would this work.

It sounds like a great idea and would be a fantastic memento FROM collectors TO Harbour Lights.

Getting news out to non-Forum readers would be most helpful to make this kind of project grow big - How do you envision this happening without having HL mail out to collectors?

Via dealers? At dealer signings? Regional events? Collector Clubs?

The idea of a scapbook from the HL collectors
to HL is a great idea. Considering how much they do for all of us, it would be a great way to show our appreciation. Please put me on the list of folks willing to contribute time, money, pictures, etc.

Wow

I am very impressed at the response! I think that it is a good idea that they would enjoy greatly.
As to getting the word out--good question. I think --
1. Is it feasible to do via the Harbour Lights web page?
2. Collectors clubs--goood idea
3. regional events--I will be at the Mid-Atlantic event in Virginia in September to spread the word there.

Maybe we could present the gift at the (hopefully) forthcoming reunion

As to the scrap book if you would send pictures & the writeup, etc. We will handle the formatting.

The first thing you need to do is start a new thread with the Scrapbook idea as the title.

Two main reasons for doing this, first nobody will get the idea from the title of this thread and some people only open and read a thread if the title interests them.

The second reason and much less important one is that this thread can then get back to the topic... Harbour Lights 10 Year Anniversary Special?

I think your idea of a scrapbook is a very good idea and needs to go forward but you are going to miss people seeing it right from the start by it being under this thread instead of it's own.

Maybe start the thread in the "Next Reunion Forum", that forum seems always generate a lot of traffic when someone posts something new there.

10th Anniversary special?...I would prefer it to be a lighthouse from this country, "see America first!" The book idea is a great one but not for a 10th Anniversary special. I don't purchase the figurines. I feel HL should stick with what they do best, lighthouses.

OK, I've created a new thread for posts about the 2001 Harbour Lights Scrapbooking concept:

http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/forums/Forum14/HTML/000057.html

Please do NOT post any more messages about the scrapbook idea here.

DO continue to post ideas on which lighthouse Harbour Lights might/should produce for it's own 10th Anniversary as a producer here.

The newest rumor about the 10 Year Anniversary Piece is that it might have new technology. It may have something on it that Harbour Lights has yet been able to produce. What does everybody think? What might this new technology be?

Could the new technology be a blue tinted transluscent material for the "water" for an even more realistic touch? (And now we could even look for the seahorse under the water as well )

New technology, eh? Here's some ideas...

See-through tinted translucent material - heck how 'bout real water! with waves.

Models that always fit themselves correctly into their styrofoam containers?

Towers constructed by hand from scale model bricks.

Lighthouse that play 'you light up my life' when you pick them up. Er, no, scratch that - bad idea.

Models of lighthouses in need of restoration that eventually crumble and fall over in your display case.

Models that refuse to be sold on e-bay.

Lighthouse with brass parts and a Harbour Lights Inspector who shows up at your house twice a year.

Glass lantern rooms?

Self dusting lighthouses? (part of the Martha Stewart collection)

Glass lantern rooms with leetle tiny fresnel lenses that rotate and light up?

Lighthouses that donate themselves to charity?

Glass lantern rooms with leetle tiny fresnel lenses that rotate and light up with miniature wicks fired by oil.

Lighthouses with little accessories to decorate them for Christmas.

A model with a 5500 edition size where every single one, but two, is a variation. (and HL ain't sayin...)

Fog signal buildings with a coupon for dry ice.

Models with live miniature bonsai trees. (what would BoB say...)

Rgds,

How about Sullivans Island, SC with an operating elevator?
Or maybe a piece that opens to show the spiral staircase and the lantern room?

Another possibility for "new technology" could be glow in the dark lantern rooms or possibly glow in the dark accents on selected parts of the sculptures

Put a penny in the base, and a little lightkeeper rolls his way out the front door with a lantern in hand.

How about a Chia light? As the lightkeeper, you have to continually mow the grass to keep the site tidy.

Boy was I off base, I just was hoping for Pharos, when I should have been reaching for the stars. Chia lighthouse, how big is it going to be in order to need a mower instead of just trimmers?

Forgot to mention, Paul. The first 1200 will include a limited edition battery operated miniature mower with it.

How about a "bobbin" Keepers-Head that you can display in the back window of your car....and....for the first 200 that order'em...you will also receive an offical screen-print (on black velvet) of a battery-operated "glow". (Batteries not included)

How about the old lighthouse in the snow globe? It seems that every other collectible has stuck an image of their product inside a snow globe. [tic] It's Harbour Lights turn.

Not!!!
