That would be an interesting one, Rock. My daughter was watching CMT yesterday and they were playing older videos. Just before we left to work at the Old Michigan City Light, there was a video prominently featuring what had to be Battery Point. Suppose they will include that big 'ol tree?

Dave, is that the video that Tim McGraw did? I can't remember which lighthouse he did a music video from a few years ago. Should be a good one any way! Battery Point Lighthouse

It looks a lot like Point Pinos. Are they related besides being in CA? Chuck ------------------ bigdragon

I was at Battery Point Light about two weeks ago. The keepers live there. They get up each day, dress in period costumes and welcome the public into their home (for $2.00 a head - money goes into restoration). She explained that HL had approached them a few years ago, but she had refused because they wouldn't let them sell the limited edition at their on site gift shop. She also mentioned that she and her husband are in the process of moving on and letting someone else live there. They agreed to stay until the historical society locates new keepers. Perhaps that is why HL is making it in the near future. If the historical society has worked out a deal with HL for some funding support despite objections from the keepers, it would explain the timing. It's a wonderful lighthouse, but wouldn't want to live there. I thought about it, then looked at the parking lot about two or three football fields away across the sand bar, and thought about hauling the groceries across there at low tide. No thanks. Hope you're right Mike. You can visit it when you come north. Rich ------------------

Chuck,
The reason it looks like Point Pinos is the same reason that it looks alot like Old Point Loma, the original Alcatraz, the GBNF Santa Barbara and two others that escape me at the moment.
They were all built on the same plan- a New England Cape cod style house with the Lantern Room perched on top.
This concept is also why there is an Old and New Point Loma. they built it based on the characteristics of the East coast, no the West. The fog comes in differently there and caused Old Point Loma in particular to be less than completely useful where it was built
The houses were individualized for each spot- specificlly the height based on where it was positioned.
I'm sure others can add more to this for you.
Dennis

I think if you look, all the early California lighthouses are similar in design. Remember reading somewhere just recently that the first 5 were all the Cape Cod style, with the tower coming up thru the house. Battery Point is easy to pick out of a line-up if they include that big tree with it. That in itself could be a great tribute to Bob.
