In my new Legacy (which I recieved today, I found a hint as to one of the next society pieces. "One of the sculptures (hint, hint) is of a lighthouse situated on an island named after an infamous buccaneer!"

What could this be? Is there a BLACKBEARD island? Hmmmm.... Let's think this one out!

HL sure can tease!

Jakers,
Think Gasparilla Island Light, FL, also called Old Port Boca Grande Light. This light meets the hints that have been dropped. Island is named after Jose Gaspar, a pirate. This would make a real nice Society piece if the guess is right.

Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, was known to hang out at Ocracoke Island, NC. The marina at the southern end of Hatteras Island (just a short ferry trip from Ocracoke) is known as Teach's Lair Marina today. I'd guess that the society piece will not be Ocracoke or Hatteras.

Great links Saint Paul! Where do you come up with this stuff?

I love Boca Grande Light House. I hope that the guesses are right. If not HL should make this an LE. Would be a sellout even at 10,000.

I think every light house on an Island from North Carolina to Texas has been the hideout of some Pirate. including, and especially, the islands of the Caribbean. Could we have our first international collectors society piece?

Boca Grande on Gasperilla Island would be my choice though, for what its worth.

I know what it is but I'm not going to share that info with you because it's classified. You remember what Pete "Maverick" Mitchell said, "It's classified...if I tell you I'll have to kill you."

The Boca Grande Light would make a great society piece. It is a great little island and a favorite of so many of my fellow teachers. Come to visit and we'll take a trip down to see the site. It's only a couple of hours away.

Bob,
I hope you know that "Maverick" didn't come up with that phrase on his own - he heard it from his Squadron Intelligence Officer!!

How about Galveston Jetty Light, TX then and now?

The legendary Jean Lafitte is supposed to have had a base camp on the west end of the island after fleeing pursuit from New Orleans. However, it's questionable if he was really a pirate.
