Bill you didn't directly mention it but I presume that you are suggesting that both the front and rear lights be done. A set similar to Gatun Locks.

WOW! What a great set THAT would make. I concur Bill.

You have my vote for the both of them to be done for the Reunion light. Got to see both of them in the Summer of 1999 on a airplane ride over the area. Good choice.

I think that would be a great idea, the 2 as a set, rear as your full size reunion piece and the front the reunion mini (scaled to size with the full size piece) and with matching numbers of course !

Where's drwhok9 - the upper front range light looks a little like a Tardis. :-)

I agree that Craighill Channel would make a great Reunion piece. I don't think they would have to be 2 seperate pieces. They are actually about 2 miles apart. The rear lighthouse is a 105 foot high skeleton structure and the front is a much shorter cassion style lighthouse, very similar to Baltimore and Sandy Point. If they were both made to scale on one base I think they would look very good because of the big difference in height.

Hl could also arrange for one of the Harbour Cruise Companys to have boat tours to the lights. The deep water channel goes very close to the lower range light so a large boat could get close enough for good pictures. The rear light is not close to any water deep enough for a really large dinner cruise boat but there are smaller ones that could get close enough. There is one called the Patriot, that probably holds 200 people, that could get close enough.

There are actually to sets of Craighill Channel lights. The other 2 would also be in view from a boat.

Extending the cruise to include Baltimore, Sandy Point and Thomas Point is also a possibility.Thomas Point would be the fartherest away from the Craighill Lights but it is only about 20 miles.

Great choice Bill! Put my vote in for the both of them... How do you all keep coming up with all these lights I haven't ever seen or heard of? I hope there are a bunch more.

Not too long ago I posted a piece about "Lighthousing Baltimore" . If you want more info on lighthouses of the Chesapeake, go to the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS's web page for great information. Chesapeake Heritage

Hi all -

I just got around to reading this forum and had to laugh at JTimothy's posting. Yes - paint the lighthouse blue and I would feel right at home.

Thanks for making me laugh and making me feel even more part of this wonderful family.

Counting the days until Baltimore 2001.
