The St Augustine Lighthouse 25th anniversary piece.
It will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the renovation of the light.
It will show the lighthouse as it was in 1980 when the renovation was beginning.

OH, NO! NOT ANOTHER VERSION OF THE SAME OL LIGHTHOUSE!

I guess this is good news for St. Augustine, but bad news for the collectors. mad

Another reason not to look forward to 2005 and beyond... Don't we already have the original LE (on my shelf which USED to be worth a lot of $$$), last year's regional and now, another version as it existed in 1980!! ???

Time to start contacting Danbury Mint to lobby for a sculpture of Point Bonita...

Well Folks,

So far we've got

HL138 Original
HL275 Old St. Augustine
411 GLOW
671 Regional Event
715d Ornament
LL121 Little Light

Isn't that quite enought? I agree that St Augustine is beautiful. But there are a lot more lighthouses that have never been produced by Harbour Lights.

Okay, does anyone rember what people were saying about the regional piece LAST YEAR? Obviously not. I think that HL has signed a contract with St. Augustine - they get to hold an event there every year, but they have to produce a new piece each time.

ENOUGH ST. AUGUSTINES. It's a beautiful light. However, I fear that its beauty is becoming overextended with these excess versions. frown

It's getting to the point that someone could have an entire of St. Augustine pieces and need an entire curio cabinet.

Being from Florida and enjoying St Augustine everytime I go, I have this to say. Enough is enough already! This just confirms my decision to stop collecting all the limited editions. I will stop this January rather then January 2006. I'm tired of buying re-introductions of re-introductions. Starting this year I will just buy what I like and you can be sure it will not be more re-introductions.

Well said Rich. I'm beginning to think that someone at Harbour Lights thinks that the avid collectors are stupid and can't remember what happened yesterday.

I agree with the general consensus, PLEASE NO MORE REMAKES OF THE LIMITED EDITIONS!!! Like a lot of you, I collect for the love of the lights, but I also like for them to hold value. I guess the only way to get them to stop is to not buy them and show them our disapproval. frown mad

The general reaction above was mine also.
When it comes to collectables this is a bad choice.
But when you look at what will be a good marketing piece and go along with next year’s theme the renovation piece will sell well to the general public. The damaged to the St Augustine’s secondary market was all ready done by this year’s event piece and I doubt that this lighthouse will hurt the market. As Rip said it will be a sculpture of a beat up neglected lighthouse. Mike from the Lighthouse museum, said that it would have ladders on it, which I think is to show the beginning of the renovation. Since this is a replica of a dilapidated building, collectors will also want a figurine of the one they are use to seeing now. That would have been the 138 LE but know will be the easer to obtain St Augustine event which probably can be purchased at St Augustine for the next 5 years.

Guys; the long time collector will have to take a back seat to casual collector. The St Augustine lighthouse event will have 7,000 people or more. The renovated model will sell big time along with the left over St Auggies Event pieces.

In the beginning Bill younger never wanted to make collectable pieces since they would tie him down but he knew that open editions would not sell. The younger family does not want to be tied down to numbers and secondary market. They are not in the secondary market. They are artist and they want to keep on creating and improving on lighthouses that will make money. They humored the collector for a while with the GLOW but those days are exhausted. Harbour lights is now boldly coming out making repeats of lighthouse figurines that were already created. We are now going to be taking a back seat to the new market and that is the market of casual collectors that meet in masses at lighthouse events. Just call us longtime collectors the Back Seat Boys .

I can just see it now: an alligator chasing the keeper across the porch who is chasing some kids who just raided his grapefruit stand that was positioned by the out house which used to be the oilhouse that now looks like Florida"s voting machine and on the way out of the yard they run in front of a billboard for a Stuckey's. Beautiful...just beautiful.

I'm from Florida and love St. Augustine but I agree we have ENOUGH of that light. It is disappointing when there are so many lights that have not been done. Oh well, at least I'll save some money!

Good morning, boys & girls! This message is coming to you from the Bay State where we are currently experiencing a lovely mixture of rain and wet snow. Fortunately, my end of the state is getting rain right now and we don't have to shovel that.

What's that you say? This is a topic about even another St. Augustine HL? Did they make one of those yet? Is that the one with the barber poll black and white stripes with a red roof on it? Does it come in various colors? Does it have a bridge included in the sculpture? Does it have a hot air balloon flying overhead? Does it have an Anchor Bay Boat tied up to it? Does it light up? How about, does it light up and rotate? Can you hang it on a Christmas Tree as an ornament and will it come with some ballast to hang on the other side of the tree so the tree won't fall over from the weight all on one side?

Ladies & Gentlemen! Harbour Lights is proud to announce the ever so exclusive St. Augustine Collection for St A lovers worldwide. Be the first in your neighborhood to own this latest addition to the St A's Collection. The first 3000 people who order this lovely addition to the St A's collection will receive a single digit flag#. Yes, Ladies & Gentlemen, every one of these coldcast lighthouse replicas will have a single digit Flag#! We will start with flag# 1 and continue through flag# 9. When we reach the highest flag# of 9, we will start back at flag# 1 again, and so on, and so on, and so on! What fun!!! And, a very special feature of the newest St A's light is it changes colors when you put it in the dishwasher, and every other one is actually a gold piece! And, every 1000th piece may have a certificate inside for a free entire St A's Collection! All you have to do is smash it on your sidewalk and look inside! What fun!

Bottom line: Buy it if you like it. If you don't want another St. Augustine in your collection, don't buy it. If you are really anal about having every LE made by Harbour Lights, whether you want it or not, buy it. If you are looking for an excuse to break the "I own one of every LE they ever made routine", this may be your chance. I bought some releases I have no use for, namely the Pagoda and the green man with the fig leaf holding the sign "Attention all boaters, don't look up when you pass underneath" (Colossus of Rhodes). I'm on autoship so I get one of each no matter what they are.

 Bob

Bob,

If you ever plan to join Harbour Lights as their advertising consultant, better forget it. But your speech was beyond excellent.

You forgot to mention the sign on the right just as you pass underneath the Green Man: "RENT YOU RAINCOATS AND UMBRELLAS HERE"

The least they could do is "accidentally" produce a few with a black lantern and red & white stripes running the wrong way...then you could plug it in and enjoy the first HL Barber Pole...

Evey Year I tell Kim that we need something rare at the St Augie lighthouse event. I gave her a picture of a southern lighthouse for Harbour lights to make a 500 addition of. She said they would.

A lighthouse mistake of two hundred would be okay.
Maybe kim could personaly touch it up for the first 200 making a barber pole.

I look forward to adding to my "Before & After" collection of Harbour Lights' limited editions with the new St. Augustine.

I also look forward to purchasing new editions of lights that Harbour Lights has not tackled yet.

As was stated here earlier, "if you like it, buy it" and if you don't then pass on it and wait for one that you do like to be released.

A little birdy told me this St. Augustine is a tribute to the Junior League of St. Augustine that spearheaded the restoration of the Lighthouse and Keepers' Quarters.

It will picture the buildings 'one day' in the restoration process. Might just be some surprises in this one.

I have mixed feelings of multiple reissues of the same light. I recognize the fact Harbour Lights needs to keep selling to stay in business. I know that the HL Dealers in that area love it. I know people who are directly associated with St. A's love it, but do I as a collector really need so many St. A's in my collection?

I'm well aware that I don't have to purchase the reissues. I can tell my autoship dealer to forget this one and that one. I know this may sound a little pessimistic, but such things as this could cause a collector to break the chain of buying them all. Once a link is missing, the gap could become even wider. Then what happens?
