Any of you Harbour Lights Reunion veterans have any idea when we can expect some kind of itinery, like which lights we'll see on the tours etc.? I'm trying to plan the rest of our lighthouse vacation, and kinda would like to know which lights we have to plan on by ourselves.

My recollection from the Providence reunion is that they didn't publish any itinerary ahead of time. I don't think we knew which lights we were going to see until we were on the busses or boat. I agree with you, Mike, and would sure like to know before the trip.

Just as Providence and San Diego are very different places, expect that the reunion in Baltimore will be different than the previous two.

Some information has come out in past chats:

Thursday pm - registration, hugs, get acquainted time, dinner together.

Friday - 5 hour cruise (more than one ship) on which we'll relax and see three lights - Craighill Channel, Sandy Point, and Baltimore. Dinner together.

Saturday - Discover Baltimore / Learn more about Lighthouses. Dinner at Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse.

Sunday - Brunch with Bill & Farewell Hugs.

Plus lots of little surprises during the reunion. More information is expected to go out in early August - but don't expect an itinerary until you get to Baltimore.

And still some room on those Lighthouse Motor Coach Tours: For more information:

Depending on where we leave from the Inner Harbor, we may pass the Fort Carroll Light. This is the endangered light that can be seen off of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

I would expect that we will also pass by the Lazaretto Point replica . Chances are if you see one of the Craighill Range Lights you will see its' mate. There are 2 sets, the Upper and the Lower. The Upper set are very easy to see from land. The lower, rear light can be seen from shore, but the lower, front light is a ways out. If we are going to see Sandy Point , we hopefully will also see these. A 5 hour cruise could cover some serious distance.

A year or so ago I managed to do a little Lighthousing Baltimore when I was there for a meeting. Maybe this will help you a little in your land based efforts.

Last summer, I went on a 6-7 hour Thomas Point Sunset Cruise with the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS that I expect will be similar to the cruise we take in Baltimore.

We saw Seven Foot Knoll, Lazaretto Point Replica, Fort Carroll, Upper Craighill Channel Range, Lower Craighill Range (from a distance), Baltimore, Sandy Point and Thomas Point at sunset.

From what I understand, Thomas Point isn't on the schedule. But, there is a cruise to the lighthouse that runs out of downtown Annapolis.

If the cruise lasts for 5 hours there should be time to see both Thomas Point Light and Bloddy Point Light, which is nearly due east of Thomas Point Light. All 4 of the Craighill
Chanel Lights are in close proximity to each other near the mouth, and just north of, the Patapaco River. A tour boat traveling at 10-12 Knots should reach all of them in an hour. Baltimore Light and Sandy Point Light are both north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge which is less than 15 nautical miles south of the northern most range light. Thomas Point Light is 3-4 miles south of the bridge and Bloody Point light is 4-5 miles east of Thomas Point Light. I hope that they will include Thomas Point and Bloody Point. You can also get a great view up the Severn River as you travel south towards Thomas Point. You can actually see the Naval Academy from the bay.

Sounds like a great tour! Everybody should remember to bring lots of film for those great photographic memories!

I've already started buying film when it is on sale. Hunt keeps wondering if I am trying to boost Kodak price share (he still has no idea were he is going on vacation this year). I think I will need a suitcase just for the film then a second mortgage on the home for development.

Pat,
You might just have it easy. In our case,
Rich says he's taking 3 cameras, so we may
have to get everything developed in smaller
installments. Between trying to find room
for all the camera gear and the lighthouses,
I'm just hoping we have enough room for some
clothes!

Marilyn, Think "empty suitcase (trunk)" to the Reunion and "full suitcase (trunk)" going home.LOL We will also be bringing 2-3 cameras. Hunt will have his 2 special cameras and I will have my little point and click model. Either way, I plan on getting the HL models shipped home.

Gee Dave....I just might take you up on your offer. Especially the lighthouses. So don't over fill your car/van. Keep thinking 4-6 extra HL's for Pat... I am sure we can work out an arrangement for delivery to KY.

Great news in the mail today...HL has offered to ship our Reunion Exclusive pieces directly to our home after the reunion instead of receiving it in Baltimore...Cost will be $6 for one and $7.50 for two...What a deal...and the best part is they will be signed by Bill before they are shipped...I for one will be taking advantage of this wonderful offer...Thanks Harbour Lights, you have lightened our luggage considerably...

Hi Ruthie
Also got my letter and I too will be taking advantage of this offer.

Also the red-white-blue attire for Thursday's kickoff could get very interesting. Wonder if there will be a special surprise for those who go all out?

Looking forward to seeing you all in Baltimore.

Since, I believe, that Thomas Point is the one that Bill used to fish near as a kid, that one would also be included in the cruise. I hope so.

The word I've heard from sources in El Cajon is that Thomas Point is a 'lighthouse too far' to be included in the boat tour.

Don't expect to see it during the Reunion.

I believe John is correct, so some of us from the great state of Indiana have talked about getting there early and renting a boat to take us out there. I think it will be worth the time and effort to see this beautiful light!!!

Hey Kat, How early are you talking about??
The wife and I will be arriving at BWI at 12:30 on Tuesday. Riding the Shuttle, checking in at the hotel and dropping our bags... I hope to start site-seeing at 2:00 and until supper time that evening...

It would be a shame to be that close and not be able to see Thomas Point. One whole day for the cruise... You'd think that HL would persuade the captain to keep going till we got to see TP.... maybe we can bribe the captain when we get on board that day...

It is a shame that Thomas Point will not be included. I won't say it's a main reason I signed up, but I had hoped that seeing it would be one of the activities of the weekend. It's embarassing to admit this, since I live 10 miles west of Annapolis and have for more than 20 years, but I have never seen Thomas Point. I had hoped that the Harbor Lights Reunion would take care of that huge lapse in my lighthouse viewing career (unnotable that it is).

Laurie,

Take the afternoon cruise from the Annapolis city docks. It will give you a reasonably good look at Thomas Point.

By the way, welcome to the forums.
