It almost passed without notice by me. August 8, 1998 was the first day that the 'official' web site for Harbour Lights opened.

It's been a lot of fun and has led to the continued friendship and lots of new friends for me.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the reminder! The years go by so quickly that this type of information is often overlooked.

I'm just getting ready to head out to the 10TH Anniversary of the relighting of Southeast Light on Block Island. I was there ten years ago during the original ceremony. I can't believe that was ten years ago.

Time flies when you're having fun!

John a very big Thank You! for all that you've done for each and everyone of us on the forums. It has been a lot of fun and many new friendships have begun in great part because of the forums. Just imagine all the information that is generated here and what we would probably miss out on without that information. Thanks again.

Well said, Bert, and ditto from me!

P.S. It didn't take you long to get back to the CF after returning from the "Benefit on the Block"!

Congratulations, John, and thank you for the Collector Forums. The hours of work you put in to make this a fun and informative place really are appreciated by all of us. And, thanks to each of you who contribute to this wonderful thing that brings us all together.

John,

I'll ad my $.02 worth- thanks to you for all of your hard work on these Forums.

They wouldn't exist without your contributions. I enjoy coming on to them all the time.

I'll add my two cents, too. I don't participate in the Forums as regularly as I used to; things in life change, sometimes unavoidably.

I thank you St. John for creating and maintaining this website that has brought so many with a common obsession (HL of course) so close together. Without your tireless efforts in service to us in the collector community this resource wouldn't exist.

My hat's off to you!

Thank you everyone especially John for making this forum what it is! I don't think a day goes by where I'm not learning something new, seeing photos of lights I've not been to yet or hearing about a lighthouse event I might not otherwise have heard of. This site has become imbedding in my daily routine and I'm looking forward to many more years of great information. Thank you!

Thanks for all the nice comments about the Collector Forums. I WAS, however, noting the Fifth Anniversary of the Harbour Lights Web Site.

John,

Just goes to show that some of us have trouble reading english as well as spelling it. laugh

It's like that excercise you do in groups of people- have one person say something to the next person and have them pass it down a line of people and see how much it has changed from the original statement after being passed by 5 people.

I'll add my thanks to your efforts with the Harbour Lights Website. I don't use it as much as the Forums but it's great to have it when you need it.

You know I really can't quite remember what I found first, HL.com or Lighthousekeepers.com. All I really remember was sitting here with one HL and typing in Harbour Lights on the Internet. Well, maybe it was the HL site, as it lead me to a nearby dealer. But if so, it couldn't have been more that a day or so later that I found the forums. Thanks so much John, for all you do, both there and here! smile

I think there is a few of us left that started conversing on the old AOL "Harbour Lights" Chat and posted HL's for sale or wanted to buy on the AOL Board. Then we just evolved and followed our fearless leader to the Collector Forums.

How the time flies when you're having fun! Keep up the great work, Saint John!

Wow, 5 years!!!

I actually don't remember how I found these forums...I think I found it either through a link or typing in "Lighthouse Keepers" (looking for info on the actual USLHS keepers) and found this in my Google results. Either way, I was hooked!!!

Congratulations and thanks for your five years of great work. When you first started your Website for selling Harbour Lights, Did you ever dream that it would lead to the Harbour Light Website and Collectors Forum? I still have a hard copy of your wedsite back in 1997.
This has been a great site and a fantastic tool for collectors. The Harbour Light website and Forum has nurtured us collectors from collecting infancy to Super wacko.

I registered the first day the site was available. Can I have written under date of register as: “FIRST DAY” ?

Larry how did you connect to the past like that? Awesome

Daniel, in your hard copy of that first year is there discussion of values of Harbour Lights and statistical analysis of how worth is determined? If so, I'd love to get a copy of the discussion and any statistical formulae produced.

"Instead, we asked John to adapt what he created for our official web site. John has brought much of the content of his site including chats and forums to www.HarbourLights.com. He will also be adding additional features and enhancements to our site in his new role as Webmaster for Harbour Lights."

A quote from Larry's archives. I guess Kim liked our forums back then.

you can do it for any website. Just go to the Way Back Machine and type in a URL.

I couldn't figure out what that '3K' meant when I first saw your post, Bob...

Congratulations! And thanks for hanging in here, helping out on the Forums and for all your work and enthusiasm for Long Island (and all) Lighthouses!

I'll never forget that personal tour you gave me when I visited!
