I would like to see a photo documentary @HL.com on the production process used to make HLs. I don't know if that can be done without giving away trade secrets, but each time I pick up one of the newer sculptures I wonder, "How the heck do they *do* this?" (John & Paul: this may be your big chance to visit China!) Being a manufacturing person myself, I am always curious about how stuff is made. Does anyone else share this curiousity?

They say two things you don't want to see being made are hot dogs and laws.

Maybe we should add a third?

I'd have to clear my calendar for the China trip, but with enough advance notice, I'm sure it would be worked out....

Just put a few 'Chi-Cams' on the shop floors. We can watch live!

"Dear - come to bed - its 4:00 AM"
"In a minute - just as soon as I watch this guy de-mold Big Sable". ROFL

'Yeah right' - I can hear Kimmer now! :-)

Agreed.

I'll bet that practically everyone is curious about how the process goes. Knowing that Bill Y came from a background with the David Winter cottages line I wouldn't be surprised that the HL process is much like that. Nevertheless, it would be great to understand more about the process, not down to the level of detail that might compromise the competitive nature of the business.

Isn't anyone else out there even *mildly* curious?

I do have my passport in order. My wife loves Chinese food. We love to travel, especially when it concerns lighthouses and Harbor Lights lighthouses. I could easily clear my calendar for the trip. I have wanted to do or see it done. I want to take it a step further from the beginnings (Bill taking pictures) to the end in the stores (taking delivery, selling and display). The whole story.

Do you think they would actually let someone in the plant to watch ?? And does anyone know where in China they are manufacturing ? Is it near Beijing ?

Thanks,
Brian

I like the idea of the Chi-Cams. We could take turns watching all day and night to see what variations are being made before they even make it to the US. We might even get to see some AP's. Exciting stuff: no telling what we'd get to see with vigilant surveillance. :-^) (tongue in cheek).

It sounds as though some of you folks would support a Reunion in China with a factory tour being the highlight (g). Seriously though, this could be the ultimate Society-only lottery prize. If the lucky winner would take the pictures you describe for posting to the website, maybe HL could write it off as a business expense.

I like the Chi-cam idea too. Maybe the Beijing government will let us tap into their video surveillance lines (for a small capitalistic fee, of course) to avoid duplication of hardware costs!

Art, you have a great idea. What is astonishing to me is that so very few HL collectors have picked up on the idea and added their "ayes" via the forum.

NB John Chidester - you are now an insider, so ask the company and if they say absolutely not then we can all forget it. No use letting us bang our collective (pun intented) head against the wall if Y&A has already decided nyet but has not made such a decision public.

HL has done some of the elementary documentation of making the LH in some old LEGACYs. I suggest that HL should take a digital video camera and post some video clips. I'm sure BY wouldn't mind some new equipment.

We could then have a contest on "How many feet of digital tape BY took in China."

With the new equipment you could also produce the mold breaking ceremony on new retirements for Bill H.
