Our 17 year old cat just isn't satisfied with his own food. When you get up from the table, he's up there on the chair, trying to mooch something off your plate.

I always push my chair back far enough that if he jumps up on it, he still won't be able to reach the table....

...that is until now:

John,

Are you SURE that your cat is the ONLY reason that you have to push your chair so far back from the table? laugh

It's a cat thing. Cats do things...because they can, and it's as simple as that.

I've seen both of mine stretch themselves to lengths that defy imagination if they want to see/inspect/smell something. Nothing is really out of reach.

Great photo, John!

The new plan is to remove the plates of food from the table when you walk away from the table.

In his early years, Squeeker could jump easily from the floor to the table top or the top of the kitchen cabinets. Now his limit is the seat of the chairs.

I think his odor memory must be very long. If we are having certain foods that he may have been lucky enough to sample years and years ago, he comes begging for it when we have it again. One time years ago he had spaghetti. Now he begs for it -- but doen't get it. (We called him "Mario - the italian cat" for a while after that incident.)

In 1996 he jumped up from the floor to the counter, then from the counter to the TOP of the hanging kitchen wall cabinets. I had a built-in fridge/freezer. While walking around on the top of the upper cabinets, he fell down behind the fridge unit -- a width of about 4" from the wall x 4' wide. No way to get him out. I had to cut a hole through the outside wall big enough to reach in and pull him through to the outside.

He used up at least one of his lives in that incident.

So that's actually YOUR cat and YOUR table?

Where'd you get that really cool table? laugh

Oh yeah, and that Guatemalan-looking rug below it.

My cat, my table, my rug.

Cat: AZ Humane Society
Table: Robb & Stuckey/ Phoenix (I painted the chairs and table to match colors in the rug. Also recovered the seats.)
Rug: Lowes

Way too skinny to be related. Squeeker who once weighted 7.5 # now is about 4.5# and has arthritis. I think in human years he'd be about 119. He has good eyesight, good smell, bad aim on hitting the cat box when doing #1. His nose and ears are getting bald.

Don't blame squeeker too much, John.

How well do you think any of us would do at the ripe old age of 119? I doubt that none of us would even be able to FIND the bathroom or would even would be able to HOLD it long enough to get there. laugh

Wouldn't it have been easier to match the table?

Cats are very determined when it comes to food.
Ours just uot right jumps on the table.

I've had the table for about 20 years, Daniel. It was time to update it. The chair seats used to be woven rush.

When new, the table legs and chairs were painted an off-white with the walnut-colored table top. The top flips open and swivels to double in size.

Reminds me of the "four stages of forgetfulness:"

1. Remembered the faces, forgot the names

2. Forgot the faces and the names

3. Forgot to zip up

4. Forgot to unzip

I'm still amazed with the focus on the table and chairs! LOL Maybe I should change careers and get my own program on HGTV?

Mr. C. is a very talented and creative person. That's my kind of taste, but I doubt that I could do the work that went into it. wink
