I've signed on from a different computer, and I'm wondering if posting a message here will set the necessary cookies to be recognized.

Cookies are written to the computer from which you are accessing the forum. They can't travel with you. So for example, if you read the forums at home and at work (tch tch) your light indicators will typically be out of sync. No harm. Just something to be aware of.
