Looks like you captured that breaking wave just right. That water sure looks cold. Doesn't appear to be any snow though. I imagine that wind coming off the lake to be very cold. Bert

Jake it looks like you got the hang of posting pictures. That wind off the lake looks too cold for my liking!

Nice pic! Out of curiosity, what direction do the prevailing winds come from in the winter months out there? I would think they would normally blow from the north-northeast. Is that the direction the lighthouse faces? Bob

Light is on the west coast of Michigan - it heads west or maybe a little northwest I believe. (But I don't get there quite as often as Jake who lives just down the road...)

Bob, reference the wave action and wind direction. Most of the time the wind is out of the South Southwest, and does not creat monster waves on the North Pier as they are blocked by the south pier which only has the channel marker. But when the wind comes out of the North or North West it is the best time. However, It takes longer for the wave action to change then it does the wind direction. I have noticed from the weatherman that the wind has changed directions to the North at 30-40 MPH and have rushed down to the Pier to catch the wave action only to see that the waves are still coming out of the South-South West. So it then requires a waiting time, and it is not only cold this time of the year, but if the sand is not frozen over, you get sand blasted. Hope that helps, Jake
