Since my move to the remote wilderness of NC and the subsequent loss of AOL, I have been unable to use my characteristic GIF (Rotating TWIN LIGHTS) signiture as I have been unable to locate anyplace to upload it that is accessible ( on AOL it was "members.aol.....).

Can anybody advise me where this can be done, hopefully for free??

George,
Your ISP should provide you with space to store things such as your gif. You might look thru the lower forums (forum on these forums, etc) for previous discussions. Also, Saint Timothy has put together some good info that is in the Welcome Forum (Newbie Jumpgate).

Either call your ISP or go to their web site for information on storage. One area to look for it would be where they discuss personal web pages.

My local ISP (truly local yocals) tech support is not of much help. They claim it can't be done, but then they are misinformed for the most part as I know more about this stuff then they do! My next move is to the OWNER. I have placed my GIF in the webspace provided, but have been unable to get it to respond.

The callout is as follows:

Dave's suggestion is a good one and the right place to start...

Also you want to make sure you don't have any spaces between the 'URL' and the start and ending IMG tags. An extra space will cause it not to work.

[img]http://www.webworkz.com/~pharologst/KTF.gif [/img] doesn't work cuz of that pesky extra space before the closing IMG tag.

If we take out the extraneous directory name and the extra space we get...

hmmmm... let's try:

Yeppers! Good old HTML works!

Here's some HTML code that will do the same thing:

HTML for posting an imgage is a few less keystrokes but looks cryptic. Once you get the hang of it - or repeat it by rote - its will always work sometimes in places where UBB won't.

Cut n paste the code above, or try the IMG tag without the '/public_html' directory.

Why not try it in The Play Room

There's a bunch of information on posting pictures, (your animated .gif is basically a picture) available from the 'mailslot' (Forum Goodies)in the Forum About These Forums
