Tim suggests if you can imbed a picture, you can do a sound. I'm not sure. So here's a test. If you click on this link, will a sound play? http://www.harbourlights.com/site/sounds/nautical.wav With IE4.0 you get a new window then a choice to execute the program or download it. If you choose to execute it, a player comes up and plays the sound. 11/8/98 - just changed the URL for the sound. [This message has been edited by JChidester.]

The sound worked very well on Netscape. The Player was automaticaly loaded and started, on a second window.

So real I can almost hear the fog roll in!
With images, protocol suggests keeping the image to a smaller size. The same might be suggested for sounds.
Now what we need is a picture of a nice Fog Signal Building with appropriate steam powered horn blast. (as much as Mark would have folks believe we crank these things, we don't, we just pull a lever... 8*) )
This is enough of a temptation for me to set up a site just so I can re-direct stuff to here.

My original "nautical.wav" file was about 280K, Rod Watson beefed it up - added bells, doubled the length, added waves, made it stereo and more. It ended up at 875K, however. He performed more magic and reduced it to about 424K. Once you open the page, the sound is cached to your hard drive so the next time you go to the core page, your system should pick up the sound file from your hard drive and be faster to begin.
On the HarbourLights.com home page (default.htm), you get this sound by clicking on the banner.

I really like your sound wave John, but sometimes it gets me in trouble. I get up early in the morning for my trek into Boston and I *need* my beauty sleep (the nights just ain't long enough anymore). Anyway, I SAY I'm going to bed, but log onto your website (yes, I'm addicted to both HL *and* LighthouseKeepers.com) and I get caught! I tried telling Steve it was just the foghorn at the Canal, but the bell sounds did me in. :-)-8-<=

An EASY solution to those who want to check the site without waking spouses or significant others -- turn the sound off before going to www.lighthousekeepers.com! LOL.

Is anyone else transported back to a warm Saturday night in San Diego listening to the Popeye theme playing over and over again ?
