Finally pulled the plug on the AOL connection -- theoretically as of June 10 when the next payment would be due, but as of yesterday, I'm unable to sign on.

My "Buddy Name" of "Chidester" still works (I've got another AIM name just in case.)

I started using AOL when there were around 4 million 'members'. Last I heard it was 12 million.

My email now is chidester@mindspring.com

Wow John! I didn't realize you brought 8 million people to AOL.

I want to drop AOL, but I'm using their long distance. I think they call that a hook. But I rarely actually log on anymore.

Certainly would like to hear how mindspring works out for you. I am considering changing to them myself. My ISP is being bought out (again) and I'm not real happy with them anyway. Since I have to change email address might as well go with a better service. Prodigy is taking over CWIX, any one have experience with Prodigy?

I had Prodigy for two years, but they were worse than AOL which I still have. That is not to say they couldn't have changed. About all you can do is take advantage of their free trial offers and see how it works for you.

I picked Mindspring on the recommendations of several others.

Also checked a site that evaluated different ISP - might have been CNET.com. Had a large number of evaluators and not one of them said anything but the best for Mindspring.

You can join online -

Mention my name as the referer and I get a month free!

I've been with AOL for a few years. I don't agree with some of their policies but other than that, I've had good luck with it. I also have their long distance service and their credit card.

I guess I'm one of the fortunate people that are able to log in when I want and not get knocked-off unexpectedly on a regular basis. Actually, I can't remember the last time I was knocked off unintentionally.
