The software for the Forums was upgraded Sunday evening 11-8-98. I changed out the graphic images in some cases as well.

As always, suggestions are best kept to yourself. No, No, suggestions are always WELCOME!

John [A few of you panicked out there when for about 10-15 minutes there were no forum messages. YOU know who you are. Time to seek medical help?] LOL

Hi St. John and Sean,

The animated Pt. Arena as the logo for the forums is REALLY neat. Best lighthouse animation I've ever seen. However, I liked the previous indicator beacons for telling me if I'd read messages yet. They seem clearer.

Maybe this is one of those suggestions I should'a kept to myself...

arrggghhhh - he pulled the plug!!!!!

The new format is very classy.
I especially like the Topic Highlight.
The lighthouse indicator takes a little getting used to but is definitely an improvement. Maybe you can get it to blink when there are new messages like you did on the HL homepage and the top of the Forum.
THE BLINKING Point Arena with the reflection across the water is outstanding!!!

The upgrades are wonderful, John.
I also am very impressed with the Pt. Arena
animation. Beautiful. Just beautiful.
I commend your choices.

John,

Tried to do a copy and paste of text on my kast entry. Wouldn't do it. Typed it off-line and had to repeat on-line. Is it me? Or, just a temporary thing.

Worked OK for me, Fred.

John,

I really admire the new Point Arena logo. The night scene and flashing beacon evoke the very essence of what draws many of us to lighthouses. I was fortunate to acquire a Pt. Arena at retail last month (thanks, Sean) and I appreciate the piece even more due to the logo shot.

Thanks, Rich.

A few words about the photo. My wife and I were on a trip from San Francisco to the Oregon-Washington border planned around stops at various lighthouses -- well, OK, ALL the lighthouses and as many HL dealers as I could find, with trusty directory in hand.

We arrived at the Rollerville Junction store about 3 miles from the lighthouse and spent a few too many minutes there resulting in our arriving at the gate to the lighthouse just a few minutes past closing. On the drive down to the lighthouse, I had spotted the viewpoint and with the light fading fast, I drove back the mile or so, set up my tripod and shot a bunch of bracketed slides.

I was very happy with the pictures that came out of that trip. Here's the full frame photo:

The animation consists of 3 different images with varying amounts of 'flash' added in Photoshop by "Rendering Lens Flare". It's the "lens flare" that looks like a reflection on the water. The animation was done in MS Image Composer 1.5 which is part of the MS FrontPage 98 package.

I'm still awaiting help on why the [IMG} tags do not work correctly, but I've found that the HTML tag for an image does.

So if you have picture to include in your message use the angle brackets < IMG SRC="location_of_file" >

(But no space after the < and before the >.)

Great job on the upgrade John. Gives the whole forum a more sophisticated look.

It can be hypnotizing just watching the indicator blink.

PS Since everything is getting so up-scale, should the green title band (Name - Post) be blue to promote color coordination? ;-)
